Finally, one more brand Datsun has entered today in the Indian car market with the launch of its first ever model in hatch segment named as GO. Datsun’s this trendy hatchback is manufactured in Nissan’s Chennai plant and is available for sale now. At first look, the new GO seems like one more deserving small car for the common people and may raise a tough fight to its same segment rivals.

On considering the same, we are here with the detailed comparison of this new hatch with another most appealing same segment car of this time, Celerio. The Celerio is by India’s reliable brand Maruti and has tendency to take over the Datsun’s model even after having a higher price tag.

Price:

The Datsun has played a clever game by offering the price of new GO in much affordable range and also much lesser than Maruti’s car. Both the hatch(s) carries a huge price difference of around 1 lakh which can be a main USP for Datsun. While Maruti’s offers the Celerio in the price range of 3.7-4.7 lakhs, the new GO comes at cost of just between 3.12-3.69 lakhs.

Engine details:

Coming to the mechanical powers, both the hatchbacks share only petrol fuel while diesel-one is missing in both. But here again, GO seems heavier on Celerio by carrying the bigger size of engine which is 1198cc, 1.2 liter petrol unit developing the max power of 67.07bhp and better peak torque of 104Nm.

While on the contrary, the Celerio gets comparatively smaller engine of 998cc, 1.0 liter petrol which is good to produce the max power and peak torque of 67.1bhp and 90Nm.

But, Celerio is not going to back down so easily, still there are many surprise packages of Maruti’s hatchback which is far better than the Datsun’s. In this queue, the first thing is availability of automatic/clutch-less transmission in Celerio which is missing in this new hatchback GO. The Celerio’s engine is mated not only to a 5-speed manual gearbox but with automated as well while GO is paired up with just a 5-speed manual.

Jumps to the fuel economy of both the cars, though both the companies tried their best to offer best mileage in their respective hatchbacks but Maruti takes the cake away here from Datsun. The Celerio offers ARAI certified mileage of 23.1 km/l over the 20.63 km/l of GO.

Performance:

Maruti’s hatchback already performing well on-road and its customers are just amazed with its performance, now its turn of Datsun to prove the same. Being a first ever model of this company in India which is just launched today, we can’t confirm anything yet before experiencing its ride. Still, as per its mechanical strength, we surely expect something good.

Space & Dimension:

Being a hatchback, both share seating capacity for five passengers but differ in their dimension. The Datsun designed the GO with as sharply as it’s taking over of Celerio in every area. The GO is not only longer & wider than Celerio but carries longer wheelbase, longer clear height and bigger car boot as well which definitely is a bonus point for Datsun.

The Datsun’s hatch has overall dimension of 3785mm x 1635mm x 1485mm over the Celerio’s 3600mm x 1600mm x 1560mm.

Also, GO gets the wheelbase of 2450mm, ground clearance of 170mm and boot space of 265 liters while on the contrary Celerio’s wheelbase is 2425mm, ground clearance is 165mm and car boot is 235 liters.

As a result, these comparatively more dimension of GO makes it more spacious hatchback than Celerio. The one-more noticeable thing of GO is its emergency brake’s position which is in front now instead of left-hand side. This makes GO’s that left side vacant and offers more space to hold the luggage etc. Hence, overall GO scores more in this section.

Interior:

At inside the cabin, despite of small size and min. budget, both the companies still tried to make their respective model trendier and comfortable as per today’s demand by equipping the premium features in it. The GO gets a mobile docket (said to be first-in-segment) along with the USB charging and Aux-In portability as a newly equipped features while the Celerio gets comfort features like electronic steering wheel with audio controls, keyless entry etc.

Along with USB and Aux-In, Celerio also has Bluetooth connectivity which is missing in GO. Other than this, manual AC, power windows at front etc are some features which are present in both the models. Meanwhile, here is one point where GO takes the cake away from Celerio which is the offered accessories packages by company in new Datsun GO. These packs are full of requisite comfort features which have tendency to divert people’s attention towards this car. Datsun GO’s customers can avail any of these packs by paying extra. These equipped packages are termed as:

  • Women Edition
  • Family Package
  • Sporty Package
  • Trendy Package
  • Essential Package

Exterior:

The outside glimpse of both models is attractive and suits their small size. The available color options are making these small cars classier. But when we talk about the material quality of these hatchbacks, GO somehow disappoints us in comparison to Celerio. But still, by considering the fact that GO is also around 1-lakh cheaper than the Celerio, this drawback can be ignored.

Safety:

Safety wise, Celerio is better than GO and somehow justifying its extra price range. The reason is the equipment of required safety devices like ABS (antilock braking system) and airbags etc which are not available in Datsun’s hatchback.

Verdict:

Datsun GO Pros:

  • Much affordable than Celerio.
  • More spacious.
  • Rich in interior & comfort features.

Datsun GO  Cons:

  • Auto gearbox is not available.
  • Datsun brand value is not much trusted in India yet.
  • Safety features like ABS etc are missing.

Maruti Suzuki Celerio Pros:

  • Availability of Auto transmission.
  • Better fuel efficiency.
  • Most reliable brand of India.
  •  Amazing after-sale services.
  • Safer than Datsun GO.
