Whenever Maruti comes to the forefront with its latest offerings, the buzz is sure to follow. The largest automaker in India surely knows how to woo its customers with feature loaded sporty hatchbacks. That’s what the new Maruti Wagon R Stingray boasts of. The latest addition to company’s fleet of premium B segment cars is here to captivate your imagination with its stylish looks, jam packed features and trusted backing of Maruti.
The sluggish movement in automobile market has suddenly converged into speculative arena with much talk about this car. However, Stingray is more or less inspired with the same engineering as used in Wagon R and as such, they two can share the podium of mechanics but otherwise, Stingray has come up as a facelift of its predecessor. Specifically targeted at youth, this car breaks the mould of Wagon R being a dull and boring hatchback in its segment. Well with impressive looks and features, what else differentiates Stingray from Wagon R, let’s have a sneak into it.
Cost:
The very first determinant to buy a car is its cost. In case of Stingray, it is slightly on higher side of price tag with a range of 4.18 lakhs to 4.75 lakhs( ex-showroom Delhi) while Wagon R is priced between 3.64 and 4.54 lakhs.
Performance:
Next big concern for an Indian car buyer is the performance that it promises to give on road in the city or on the highways. On this front, both these Maruti are imposing with great power and fuel efficiency. The power is ignited by the proven K-series Engine with displacement of 998cc producing 68PS@6200 rpm. This 1.0-litre 67.7 bhp engine gives a torque of 90Nm@3500 rpm. Both these cars are fitted with this engine and emit fuel efficiency up to 20.51 kmpl.
Exteriors:
A car is known by its exteriors. This rule applies to Stingray as well. The exterior styling is quite sportier, bolder, and stylish with sleek grille, reinvented hood, all new bumper style, trendy headlamps. It is also spruced up with side skirting, rear spoiler, alloy wheels, chrome finish on tail lamps, and back doors. These features place it in the league of high end premium cars. Wagon R, on the other hand insisted more on utility and less on designs.
Interiors:
The all new black interiors of Stingray are quite glossy and greatly complemented by all new upholstery. Black piano finish inside the cabin is just awesome. With this car, Maruti seems to have taken an extra step to do a complete makeover of Wagon R and thus its chrome finished door handles and AC vents are too appealing. The multi information display with a backlit instrument cluster keeps you up to date with your car’s performance. On the other hand, Maruti has laid total emphasis on just the performance and somewhat held back in styling in Wagon R.
Special features:
Though the standard features are almost similar in both these cars, Stingray has been loaded with few extra features as well to make it better. Otherwise almost all the features, be it power steering, air conditioners, central locking, suspension, brake, and even the fuel efficiency, are totally similar in both these versions. Both have same power and same emission norm compliance as well. So nothing much worth discussing was found here in Stingray.
Verdict:
Talking of style and convenience, Stingray is a heartthrob with some refreshing features to reckon with while Wagon R puns onto the credibility and utility factors more than anything else. Company has fitted both with identical features but priced Stingray somewhat higher than it should be. Wagon R is priced in the comfort zone of the buyers. But the final decision rests with you. If looks drive you more, Stingray is the car for you; otherwise you can still do well with your Wagon R.
