Maruti Swift VS Hyundai Grand i10

For all those looking out to buy a new hatchback, Hyundai Grand i10 facelift emerges out as an exciting entrant into this segment. It is perceived to be in competition to Maruti Suzuki Refreshed Swift. In this clash of arch rivals, customers are surely going to be the ultimate gainers. Price

Keeping in mind its arch rivals, Hyundai has priced new Grand i10 quite competitively in the range of Rs. 4.58 lakhs and Rs. 7.32 lakhs depending upon the variants that it has launched.

Maruti Suzuki refreshed Swift is priced a little more than Grand i10 as it is in the bracket of Rs. 4.76 lakhs and 7.47 lakhs for various diesel and petrol variants. All the prices are of ex-showroom Delhi.

Engine Details

Maruti Suzuki Swift now comes with slight low powered petrol engine in order to get better fuel efficiency. 1.2L K series Petrol engine now delivers 83.1BHP power@6000rpm and 115Nm torque@4000rpm while the diesel engine continues to get power from same 1.3L DDIs diesel engine which produces 74Bhp power@4000rpm and 190Nm torque@2000rpm.

On the other hand Hyundai Grand i10 gets power from 1.2L VTVT kappa petrol engine which is responsible to produce 81.8BHP power@6000rpm and 114Nm power@4000rpm, the 1.2L U2 CRDi Diesel engine which produces considerably more power now with 74BHp power@4000rpm and 190Nm torque@1750-2250rpm.

Mileage

Probably the highest concern while buying any vehicle is the fuel economy. Thanks to rising fuel prices! The companies have also tightened up their belts and are constantly working for better mileage. In this regard, Hyundai Grand i10 offers a mileage of 19.77 kmpl in petrol manual version and 17.49 Kmpl in petrol AT version. Diesel is now tuned to produce 24.95 Kmpl of mileage.

Maruti has always gifted its vehicles with best in class mileage and in case of Swift as well, they offers a mileage of 20.4 kmpl for petrol while 25.2 kmpl for diesel variant thanks to the improvement of 10 percent.

Exteriors and Interiors

The Grand i10 has never the gorgeous car but Hyundai has tried to add some elegance and style to add an extra zing. In case of Grand i10 as well, company has maintained that matured looks however with some tinge of newness this time. New Cascading front grille, revised front bumper with new fog lamp enclosures, roof rails, rear spoiler, thick plastic black finish at rear with big reflectors adds to the freshness of new Grand i10.

On the contrary, Maruti Suzuki Swift has started to look very old and needs a facelift soon.

Swift has a bulky look in it with articulate wheel bends, rear lamps, and smartly positioned front headlamps, traditional front grille and chrome bezel fog lamps. However, all new Swift has been revealed and expected to launch in India by the end of 2017.

Hyundai seems to have taken on the competition quite seriously as it has loaded Grand i10 with so many special features that really set it apart from competition. Steering mounted control mechanism, 7 inch touchscreen AVN system with Apple car play, Mirror link and Android auto, glove box, adjustable driver seat, keyless entry, rear spoiler, rear AC vent, 2nd generation U2 diesel engine, armrest switches, good safety features, electric power steering, and map pocket are some of those exciting features that this car offers. Build quality, materials make you feel like you are sitting in an expensive car.

Even refreshed Swift is not left behind Grand i10 in this category with digital odometer, rear window defogger, adjustable head lamps, front as well as rear speakers, ABS, adjustable steering column and rear view mirror, power steering, powerful AC, rear seat belts, and superb audio system now with bluetooth connectivity, etc. However it cannot match the features and quality of grand i10.

Safety

2017 grand i10 gets drive side airbag as standard across the variants while Maruti is offering dual front airbags and ABS with Swift but as an option. Hyundai grand i10 comes packed with range of safety aids like reverse parking camera with display and audio, anti-lock braking system (ABS), rear parking sensors, smart keyless entry, central locking, engine immobilizer etc. Maruti Suzuki Swift gets almost similar features to grand i10 facelift.

Verdict

With such interesting features to boast and competitive price band, both these vehicles have initiated a battle like situation in the B hatchback segment. With comparatively low pricing, long list of features, and efficient fuel economy, Grand i10 tries to carve its place in this niche but it is definite to face stiff competition from Swift that too offers great benefits with its high end performance, much improved fuel economy and Maruti’s brand name. The 2017 Grand i10 remains one of best deal to grab in its segment as it now looks better, additional features and better to drive thanks to new engine. It is all set to take its arch rival Maruti Swift.
