Hyundai i10 grand is out in Indian market (launched on 3rd september) and with its latest technical features and better comfort and more room for everything inside than i10 has stirred a new wave of competition in the hatchbacks market. Let’s compare it with its Volkswagen peer New Cross Polo and find out which serves you and me better in terms of mileage, performance, looks and comfort.

Cost:

The entry level i10 Grand is priced at Rs. 4.3 lacs and for highest variant it is around Rs. 6.42 lacs whereas Polo Cross is much costlier than i10 Grand with its Rs 7.76 lacs tag for the diesel version. Thus i10 Grand is cheaper then Cross Polo.

Mileage:

As per the ARAI ratings the diesel version i10 grand fives 24kpl and petrol version gives 18.9 kpl mileage. On the other hand Polo Cross gives top mileage figure of 22.07 kpl. Once again i10 Grand takes the lead!!

Dimensions:

Hyundai i10 Grand expand 3765mm x 1660mm x 1520 in size while for the Polo Cross expand over 3987mm x 1698mm x 1474mm, thus Polo cross is larger length and width wise and a little low in height than i10 Grand.

Engine Performance with Max power and Max torque figures:

The i10 Grand boasts about its new 2nd gen CRDi 1.1 L U2 diesel engine which offers max power of 70.7 Ps @4000 rpm and max torque 159.84 Nm @1500-2500 rpm. Incase of Polo cross the 1.2 L TDI diesel engine offers max power of 75 PS @4200 rpm and max torque of 180 Nm @2000 rpm. For the petrol counterparts: incase of i10 Grand there’s a 1.2 Kappa dual VTVT engine, offering max power of 82.94 Ps @6000 rpm and max torque of 11.6kgm @4000rpm and the Polo Cross 1.2 L TSI engine offers 102 Ps@5000rpm.

Transmission, Acceleration and max speed:

Both the cars are equipped with 5-speed manual transmission. The top speed achievable in i10 grand for diesel version is 157 kmhr and time taken to accelerate from 0-100 kmph is 15.6 secs and here Polo Cross takes a leap forward with top speed of 164 kmph and time to 0-100 kmph is mere 14.4 sec. The fuel tank capacity in Polo Cross(45L) is 2 l more than i10 grand.

Special Features:

Rear A/c vents, rear assist parking with audio buzzer, remote fuel lid opener, remote tail gate opener, dual colour urban textured upholstery and dual colour (beige and black) dashboard, map pockets etc. Cross Polo has got lot to boast starting with its rock solid bosy like an SUV, ‘Livon’ Titanium black upholstery, Halogen headlamps, sunglasses holder inside glovebox, climatronic air conditioner, side cladding and moulded covers over wheel arches. Both the cars have a Power steering with tilt steering option and incase of Polo cross it is even telescopic, power adjustable ORVMs, glovebox and audio controls mounted on steering in both the cars. Regular safety features like dual airbags, ABS, engine immobiliser, central locking, fog lamps are present in both the cars, while TSI Polo Cross (same for TDI) is equipped with more advanced safety features like the traction control system and others.

Entertainment section:

both have 2 – DIN integrated audio system with mp3/radio player with USB and Aux-in ports. There is also Bluetooth sync system in both the cars. There is a MFD(multi function display) incase of Polo Cross adding to the technological aspects of the car.

Looks:

i10 Grand has rear spoiler, roof railings, side moldings which are present in Cross Polo as well but for the rear spoiler. Polo seems to have more aerodynamic structure than i10 Grand mainly because of the bends it has on the sides and the sporty cross rover type Polo Cross badge at the rear adds to the looks.

Verdict:

i10Grand has go better mileage options and at much cheaper price than Polo Cross, with regards the technological aspects polo cross might be marginal ahead. But definitely the Hyundai i10 Grand will be the people’s choice!!
