The new Maruti Suzuki Wagon R Stingray is emerging as a tough competitor in the entry level car segment .Maruti Suzuki Stingray can be called a facelift of the Wagon R; the car resembles Wagon R in many aspects such as the design and the interiors. Chevy Beat, from the GM is arguably the best car in the compact car segment. Chevy Beat is one of the best-selling and most popular cars in India. The popularity of Beat has not diminished and the car has managed to have a strong hold in the Indian car market. Maruti Suzuki is known for its aggressive marketing and is one of the strongest car manufacturing firms in India. Maruti Suzuki has left no stones unturned in marketing its Stingray.

Engine

Stingray has an engine less powerful than that of the Beat. Beat packs an overall displacement of 1199cc which is much above Stingray’s 998 cc. The beat operates at a max power of 81bhp@ 6400 rpm while the Stingray looks inferior at 67.7bhp @ 6200 rpm. The Stingray powers max torque of 90 Nm @ 3500 rpm while Beat outdoes the Stingray with a max torque of 108 Nm @ 4400 rpm. The ground clearance of Beat is 175 mm while the Stingray looks weaker at a clearance range of 165 mm. The Beat clearly beats Stingray with its strong engine on th040e papers. But it Beat clearly lacks intensity and the engine feels the need for more power. The Beat comes with a 5 speed manual gear box which is same as the stingray. Beat has a decent suspension and handling but it doesn’t provide an enjoyable ride around the bends and undulated roads while the Stingray may have a less powerful engine but fares well with the suspension and provides a more comfortable and easy ride around the bends .

Interiors

Beat comes with a happening and funky interiors which scores way above Stingray or any other car in the compact car segment. It has got a digital tachometer which goes well with the stylish interiors. The speedometer comes with a blue lit dial which adds to the visual treat. The front dock is made up of plastic which looks and feels decent and well-furnished with in-dash music system. The Maruti Wagon R stingray has a decent feel to it and the interior design resembles the existing version of Wagon R. It incorporates a stylish dashboard which has the A.C controls and the music system. The interior have got silver layouts at the Steering wheel and the plastic feels decent. The door trims are elegantly designed and have got dual toned look which combines matte black and a gloss rich finish. The car has got a sufficient boot space and doesn’t feel cramped. Beat looks small when compared with the Stingray packs a sufficient and luxurious leg space.

Exteriors

Taking in the exteriors into the equation, Beat is easily the best. The Chevy Beat is designed to kill. The car looks young and has a peppy feel. Stingray looks very identical to Wagon R in exterior design with few modifications. The bumpers at the front and the fog lamp housings have bold designs. The alloy-wheels give the car a stylish look. Priced at 4.18 L, the Stingray costs little more than Chevy Beat priced at 3.88 L for its petrol Variant.

Final Verdict:

One of the most prominent selling factors of Beat has been its design and the powerful look. The Wagon R Stingray falls back in the design category and resembles the Wagon R. Beat’s powerful engine fails to impress but the Stingray with a less powerful engine proves itself as a cool customer. It will be interesting to see which car excels and comes out as the winner.
