Tata Tiago AMT

Tata Motors launched Tiago hatchback in April this year with tried and tested range of engines, new design and pocket friendly pricing which resulted in more than 22,000 confirmed bookings for Tiago in its three months of existence. Apart from these wonderful numbers, Tata has also rolled out 10,000th Tiago from its Sanand Plant in Gujarat. Now these numbers might go further up as Tata will be launching AMT version of the hatch in September this year and the test mule has been spied with thick camouflage.

Spy images reveal that it is paired with an AMT transmission, till now Tata Zest and Nano has this technology former with diesel and latter with petrol engine. Reportedly, Tiago AMT will be available with both diesel and petrol powertrains to have wider audience appeal. Tiago is pitched in the entry level hatch segment against Maruti Celerio which is equipped with AMT giving it big advantage over Tiago.

Initially, petrol powered variants will be getting Amt while diesel AMT will be launched by end of this year. The powertrains will remain same including 1.05 litre Revotorq diesel engine that puts out 69bhp power and 140Nm of torque while the petrol will be a 1.2l Revotron petrol engine good for 83bhp power and 114Nm of torque. Currently, both are matched to a five speed manual gearbox. The diesel Tiago delivers terrific fuel efficiency of 27.28 Kmpl.

Tiago ticked all the right from pricing, features to design, it flaunts sculptured bonnet, honeycomb front grille with humanity line, smoked headlamps, chrome bezel fog lamps, well designed side and rear profiles. Tata will soon launch Tiago Aktiv in couple of month’s time which will be a direct competitor to upcoming Chevrolet beat Active.

We expect AMT version to be priced aggressively with its manual counterparts which is currently available at Rs. 3.2 to 4.5 lakh (Ex-showroom Delhi).
