BMW, the German luxury car manufacturer has launched a new base variant of its ongoing SUV model X5. This new variant is named as Expedition variant and it is the cheapest one of X5’s all trims. With this price reduction, company has also deducted many equipments from this new base trim of X5 SUV.

Table of Contents

Price:

The new Expedition variant is 6 lakhs cheaper than regular X5 model and hence priced at 64.9 lakhs. This price range will be applicable for company’s ex-showrooms at all over India.

Engine details:

No mechanical changed has been done in this car and it will continue running with the same 2993cc, 3.0 liter 6-cylinder diesel engine producing the max output of 258bhp and torque of 560Nm. This engine will mate to an 8-speed Steptronic automatic transmission gearbox but here is no sport version now in this base trim.

Interior:

As mentioned above, deduction of price has also come with deduction in equipments. At inside cabin, there is only Fine-wood trim American Oak available in it. While the regular X5 gets 600W, 16 speakers Harman Kardon system, the new base variant is armed with 205W system along with 9-speakers only. The features which have been omitted from this base trim are BMW Apps, Navigation system with 3D maps, DVD drive, integrated hard drive and handwriting recognition with 26cm display etc. There is no third row of seats as well that is a big omission undoubtedly.

Exterior:

Coming to exterior profile, where bumpers are now available without titanium mouldings, kidney grille is not getting titanium finish anymore and the adaptive LED headlamps has been replace by bi-xenon headlamps etc.

CarZoom’s take:

However, BMW X5 is doing a great business since its launch but now this exercise of price reduction is still undoubtedly a step towards increasing the car’s sale figures in Indian car market. It would be interesting to see now whether customers will opt for this basic and not-so-luxury model or not.
