BMW has officially announced the launch of X6 M and X5 M in India. Prices starts at Rs. 1.55 crore for the X6 M variant and it further goes higher to Rs. 1.60 Crore (ex-showroom Pan India) for X6 M. Both the SUVs (Sports activity vehicles in BMW’s language) further enrich the company’s ‘M’ performance brand in India. Both the vehicles are powered by same engines and will be retailed as CBUs (Completely built up units). The BMW X5 M and X6 M will take on the likes of the Porsche Cayenne Turbo S, Mercedes-Benz GL 63 AMG in India. Here is everything you need to know about the new performance oriented SUVs.
Engine Details:
The newly launched power houses get the same 4.4 litre twin Turbo V8 engine which dishes out a colossal 575bhp power between 5000-6000rpm and 750Nm of astonishing torque between 2200-5000rpm. Power is sent to all wheels via BMW’s xDrive four wheel drive system while transmission segment is taken car by an 8 speed M-steptronic automatic transmission. The big engine allows both the SUVs to reach 0-100k from a standstill in just 4.2 seconds while offering electronically limited speed of 250km/hr. Company claims that both models are 20% more fuel efficient while CO2 emissions levels have also been brought down by 20 percent.
Exterior and Interior:
Like any other M brand car, BMW X6 M and X5 M also sports an aggressive design cues as compared to the standard versions. It features double bar signature kidney grille, sporty front bumper with bigger air intakes and burly LED headlamps supporting BMW selective beam. Rear side now boasts more sporty bumpers with incorporated dual chrome exhausts and LED tail lights. Both the X5 M and X6 M get 20-inch M alloy wheels as standard with the option to upgrade to Michllein Piliot Super sport 21-inchers.
Climb inside the cabin and you are welcomed by the ultra spacious and elegant looking cabins. Sport front seats come with range of adjustment options that allows you to adjust driving position according to your height and upfront visibility. There is also plenty of leather covering inside the cabin especially around the roof liner and instrument which goes well with aluminum inserts and spruced up the already graceful cabin.
In terms of goodies, both of them get a head up display at the centre along with Harman Kardon powered audio system, iDrive system with new GEN navigation system, M steering wheel, M centric display with gear indicator and shift lights. Features like carbon fibre trims, sportier central layout, climate control and automatic tailgate surely adds to the premium element of the brand.
Safety:
The BMW X5 M and X6 M armored with a tonnes of safety aids including 8 airbags, ABS (Anti-lock braking system) with Brake Assist, CBC (cornering brake control), hill descent control (HSC), side impact protection, Dynamic Damper Control, Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) with M Dynamic Mode. The models come with a self leveling suspension feature.
