Responding to the Supreme Court verdict which states the ban diesel vehicles with a displacement of 2000cc or above in Delhi NCR region. The domestic SUV major Mahindra has launched a new 1.99 litre mhawk diesel engine downsized from 2.2 liters. The Scorpio with new engine is available between Rs. 9.67-12.75 lakhs while XUV500 cost between Rs. 11.58-15.51 lakhs. Both the prices are of ex-showroom Delhi.

For Scorpio, the new 1997cc mhawk diesel engine delivers 120bhp of power@4000rpm and high torque of 280Nm between 1800-2800rpm. For the brisk selling XUV500 the downsized engine belts out max power of 140bhp and 330Nm of peak torque between 1600-2800rpm. The Scorpio and XUV500 are available with a 5-speed and 6-speed manual transmissions respectively.

Both the engines are available with 2WD not in AWD trims. In Delhi you will not be able to but these cars with an automatic transmission as it is only available with high spec engine.

Mahindra and Mahindra is probably the only car maker in the country that has taken this step to deal with Apex court ban on the new registrations of 2000cc or above in the Delhi NCR region till 31st March 2016. This move could prove fruitful if Supreme Court extends the verdict beyond 31st March.

Recently, the W4 variant of XUV500 gets a new 6 inch infotainment system with USB, iPod, hands free and bluetooth connectivity. While the W8 and W10 variants received bigger 7 inch color touchscreen display picture viewer, navigation, reverse parking camera display, USB support and other connectivity options.
