The 2015 Baby Jaguar XE sedan broke its covers in 2014 Geneva motor show in a unique way which involved a helicopter flying over London’s Thames river carrying XE sedan. Jaguar XE will be company’s most affordable offering and will target BMW 3 series, Mercedes-Benz C class and Audi A4. Last year, there were reports that Jaguar would make XE sedan in India to price it competitively.
Now, Jaguar has imported one unit of XE to India via CKD route for research and development and testing purposes. Jaguar has imported 1 unit of XE at the price of Rs. 24.97 lakh which is surprisingly lower than we expected and it is way lower than its competitors. Pricing of XE would remain a key factor, if it has to influence the buyer’s decision.
Jaguar wants to increase market share in India and globally, hence it is heavily relying on the success of Baby Jag XE. The sexy saloon would be based on all new aluminum intensive monocoque and will feature all surface progress control (ASPC) and EPAS (electronic power assist steering).
The imported model is powered by a 2.0L four-cylinder diesel engine which is good enough to produce 161bhp power comes mated to a 8 speed automatic transmission. Jaguar might also bring 3.0L V6 motor for the top variant XE S that makes out 340 PS power.
Jaguar XE will be the lightest Jaguar ever with the weight of 1474 kg and dimensions of 4672mm length, 1850mm width, 1416mm height and wheelbase of 2835mm.
On design front, Jaguar XE gives resemblance of its bigger siblings XF, XJ and flaunts J blade LED DRLs, huge mesh grille with Jaguar’s logo at the centre while rear side gets F-Pace like LED tail lights. The Saloon also comes with adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, laser head up technology, close vehicle sensing, bay parking and reverse traffic detection.
Jaguar might launch XE towards the end of 2015 or early 2016 during auto expo and company plans to sell 1300-1400 units of XE very month.
