Nissan’s low cost brand Datsun is working on two new variants of its affordable hatchback Redi-Go. In 2016, Renault has added 1.0 l and AMT variants to Kwid and this year it will be Redi-Go following the same footsteps. While one of the variants will be equipped with a powerful 1.0 litre engine and other will feature an AMT transmission. Automaker hasn’t made any official announcement yet but reports suggest that both the new variants are expected to be launched by June 2017.
Based on similar CMF-A platform of Kwid, Redi-Go utilizes a 0.8 l petrol engine that makes 54PS of power and 72Nm torque, linked to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The Redi-go will borrow the same 1.0l unit of Kwid; the DOHC inline engine delivers 67bhp@5500rpm and 91Nm of torque@4250rpm, featuring a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed automated manual transmission (AMT).
The AMT is most likely to be introduced on the range topping S- variant which is brimmed with features like 1 Din audio system with Aux-in, USB and bluetooth support, front power windows, mobile docking system, speed sensitive electric power steering, drive side airbag, three point seat belt and much more.
It will be interesting to see whether Datsun offer AMT with rotary dial as Kwid or comes with conventional stick gearbox like Maruti Suzuki Alto K10. The current 800cc Redi-go is priced between Rs. 2.38 lakh and Rs. 3.54 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The 1.0l and AMT variant is likely to be priced at Rs. 3.9 lakh and 4.12 lakh respectively.
Since its launch, Datsun has sold more than 20,000 units of Redi-go and also exported 1612 units in April-December 2016 period. The introduction of new variants will surely boost its sales. Besides Redi-Go, Nissan will soon launch Terrano facelift and X-Trail hybrid in India and might get decent bump up in sales.
