BMW India has officially announced that it will launch the new X6 SUV in the country on 23rd July 2015. The new model will join the bandwagon of exclusive range of BMW SUVs like X1, X3 and X5. The new model will be pitched against Audi Q7, Mercedes-Benz GLE, Porsche Cayenne and Land Rover Range Rover Sport. Like other BMW models it will be brought to India via CBU (Completely built unit) route.
For the Indian market, it is likely to come in an xDrive40d variant which will be getting the power from a 3.0L six cylinder diesel engine. The motor is rated to develop 313bhp power along with 630Nm of peak torque and power transfers to all wheels via an eight speed automatic gearbox.
The engine helps car to reach 100km mark from a standstill in just 5.8 seconds while offering the top speed of 240km/hr. The car is not just fast, its fuel efficient too as it delivers 15.87 KMPL of good mileage.
The new X6 shares some design cues from X5 SUV and gets a sloping roofline to flaunt a typical SUV-ish look. In terms of changes it will get projector headlamps with LED strips, wider air dams and revised BMW signature grille. Changes are not restricted to exterior profile only, it can be also found in the cabin as well. The cabin will now feature a new steering wheel with mounted controls, wood trim finish, contoured seats, premium upholstery and some additional luxury equipments.
Dimensionally, the new X6 is linger than its predecessor, it now measures 4990mm in length, 1989 in width and 1702m in height. The second gen model is 34mm longer, 4mm wider and 12mm taller than the previous one, in addition the new X6 is 40 kg lighter than the current one.
Apart from new X6, the company is also planning to launch the high performance variant of X6 as X6 M. The hotted up X6 M is expected to be powered by a large 4.4L V8 petrol engine that produces huge power of 567hp along with enormous torque of 750Nm. The performance variant will be faster, it is good enough to reach 100km mark in just 4.2 seconds. The BMW X6M will take on Mercedes-Benz 63 AMG and Range Rover Sport 5.0L V8.
