Tata has unveiled its first-ever premium hatchback and it is production-ready as well. Its launch will take place in February 2020 at the Auto Expo. The Altroz was also showcased at the 2019 Geneva motor show as a production version of the 45X concept. The hatchback uses Tata’s new Impact 2.0 design language, which is very evident from its overall design.
Features of the car:
The car features design elements such as the sleek, sweptback headlamps which flank the grille up front, a prominent beltline and a rising window line. The rear also gets some interesting details – like the blacked-out elements on the tailgate just below the rear windscreen that houses the tail-lamps.
Tata will offer the Altroz with three BS6-compliant engines: 1.2-liter petrol, 1.2-liter turbo petrol, and a 1.5-liter diesel. The 1.2-liter petrol will come from the Tiago and the Tigor, while the 1.2-liter turbo petrol and 1.5-liter diesel units, both detuned, will come from the Nexon.
The Altroz will be offered with a dual-tone interior, a floating 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and a semi-digital instrument cluster like the Tata Harrier. The infotainment system will also come with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support. The Altroz will also come with a steering wheel not seen on a Tata car before. Cruise control and ambient lighting are also on the features list.
We expect the Altroz to be priced in the INR 5.5 lakh to INR 9 lakh bracket (ex-showroom). Once launched, it will rival with Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Toyota Glanza, Hyundai Elite i20, Volkswagen Polo and the Honda Jazz.
