The company will be offering the new Elantra with a BS6-compliant 2.0-liter petrol engine only and has ditched the 1.6-liter diesel motor. The petrol unit produces 152PS of power and 192Nm of peak torque while mated to a 6-speed manual with the choice of a 6-speed automatic. The ARAI-certified fuel efficiency has been rated at 14.6kmpl for both powertrains. Hyundai might decide to offer a diesel variant later. We expect it to be powered by the 1.5-liter motor from the Kia Seltos.

Design:

Talking about the style, the new Elantra features changes on the exterior. The modified front end displays the latest cascading grille design with new, sportier quad-projector headlamps. Also, the rear end has been restyled with new tail lamps too. It looks moderately similar from the side profile but the new Elantra is longer while the rest of the dimensions are the same as the pre-facelift model.

In terms of features, the car is loaded with carmaker’s BlueLink connected car technology first seen on the Venue. It also gets ventilated front seats, a wireless charging pad, an electric sunroof, dual-zone auto AC, a 10-way power adjustable driver seat and auto cruise control. Hyundai has also fitted it with a new color multi-information display but it still gets analog dials.

Safety:

For safety, Hyundai Elantra offers six airbags as standard which used to be available only on the top-end variant. It still gets ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, ISOFIX child seat anchorage and seat belt reminders as standard. Hyundai also offers the updated Elantra with a tyre pressure monitoring system, front parking sensors, parking camera, electronic stability control, hill assist, and front and rear defogger.

Hyundai also has some special offers, the Elantra facelift is offered with a 3-year/unlimited-kilometer warranty and road-side assistance along with 3-year/30,000km free maintenance and a 3-year BlueLink subscription.

The Hyundai Elantra will rival against the likes of the Skoda Octavia and Honda Civic.
