The Czech automaker, Skoda has launched its flagship sedan new Superb in the Indian market. Currently in the third generation, the starts at an initial price of Rs. 23.11 lakhs (Ex-showroom Delhi). The new saloon is now more premium, spacious and classy as compared to the ongoing model. It is based on the Vision C concept which was showcased at 2014 Geneva motor show and it will take on Toyota Camry and upcoming Honda Accord in Indian car market.
Price:
The Third Gen Superb is offered in India at Rs. 23.11 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi) for the 1.8l TSI variant while entry level variant diesel with automatic transmission is available at Rs. 26.89 lakh. The top end Laurin and Klement (L&K) variant cost at Rs. 29.92 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi).
Engine Details:
The new Superb is available with range of tried and tested engines- 1.8L TSI pod petrol engine producing 177.5bhp between 5100-6200rpm and peak torque of 320Nm with the seven speed AT variant and 250Nm with six speed manual transmission, while the 2.0l TDI CR four cylinder turbo diesel engine pumps out 176bhp of max power at 3600-4000rpm and 350Nm@1500-2500rpm. For the oil burner, the power is sent to all four wheels via six-speed Tiptronic automatic gearbox with paddle shifters.
Though there is no change in the power delivery of the new model but the engines have been tuned t o deliver higher fuel efficiency. The petrol engine is good to produce a fuel efficiency of 18.19 KMPL while Petrol MT variant returns 14.12 KMPL and 14.67 for the automatic.
Space and Dimensions:
Talking about the dimensions, the new Superb is 4861mm long, 1864mm wide, 1468mm tall and comes with a wheelbase of 2841mm up by 80mm which contributes to the better legroom space inside the cabin. The boot space of new Superb stands at massive 620 liters improved by 30 liters. However, it is now weighs 75Kg less than the ongoing model thanks to lightweight architecture.
Exterior and Interior:
Based on company’s new MQB platform, the new Superb is first to receive brand’s latest design cues. The new Gen saloon bears redesigned front fascia underpinned by 3D projector headlamps with L shaped Daytime running lights; multi slat butterfly front grille gives it the bolder stance. The front bumper is now more molded that houses LED fog lights adds to its modernity. The flared wheel arches, 18 inch alloy wheels, sloping roofline gives it the aggressive look to the outside profile. The rear also received subtle updates and now looks more like Passat with C-shaped LED tail lights along with new boot lid and rear bumper.
Along with spacious cabin, new Superb is luxurious too with long list of features like 6.5 inch Smartlink infotainment system with apple car play and Android Auto, a three zone automatic climate control with different temperature zones for front and rear passengers and 12 speakers Canton sound system with Subwoofer for the high quality audio experience. For the feel good factor it has black décor with ambient lighting, power front seat with lumbar support and memory function. It also features tablet holder at rear, panoramic sunroof, rear parking sensors and premium upholstery, push start/stop button, keyless entry etc.
Colors:
The 2016 Superb Saloon is offered in four paint schemes in India- Magnetic Brown, Grey Metallic, Candy white and magic black.
Safety:
The third Gen Superb is fitted with range of safety features such as nine airbags, tyre pressure monitoring with optional rear traffic alert, Anti-lock braking system with electronic brake force distribution, blind spot detection, remote central locking, adaptive cruise control, electronic stability program (ESP), fatigue detection, engine immobilizer, child safety lock etc.
