Within just two months of its official launch, new Gen Toyota Fortuner has crossed over 10,000 bookings with heavy demand for the diesel automatic. Deliveries of new Fortuner began after a while and since then Fortuner has delivered more than 5000 units. Since launch, waiting period for the SUV has been constantly rising up and now it has a waiting period of 2-3 months.
In January 2016, Ford Endeavour with pricing and value for money quotient has put immense pressure on Old Fortuner. The older model sales saw a massive dip of 71 percent however new Gen Fortuner was expected to be the saviour and current numbers are enough to justify the statement. Just as you know, within 2 weeks of its launch the newer iteration has received over 6200 bookings.
Amidst the fairy tale, Toyota is also looking to bring down the waiting period and want to deliver the SUV customers ASAP. While diesel has high waiting periods, petrol variants are delivered quickly. Toyota also claims that about 60 percent of the orders are for the White colour shade.
The latest model is based on Toyota new generation architecture (TNGA) which also underpins Innova Crysta and Hilux pickup truck. It features Innova Crysta powered 2.7l petrol engine that makes 166hp@5200rpm and 245Nm of torque@4000rpm, linked to a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic transmission with Paddle shifters. The 2.8l GD diesel engine is good for 177bhp power@3400rpm and 450Nm of torque between 1600-2400rpm with a six-speed manual and six-speed automatic gearbox.
Expressing his view on this remarkable milestone, Mr N. Raja, Director & Sr. Vice President, Marketing & Sales, Toyota Kirloskar Motor said, “The new Fortuner has received a phenomenal response from our customers and the market. A true testimony to this lies in the fact that even though the new Fortuner was launched a day prior to the announcement of demonetization in India, it did not dampen the spirits of our customers who have been waiting for the all-new Fortuner. We thank our customers for such an encouraging and inspiring start to this iconic brand’s second innings in India.”
“We have noticed a significant pull for the automatic transmission in both the four wheel and two wheel drive variants. This goes to show customer’s willingness to upgrade to higher variants. We have also noticed a significant preference towards the colour Super White contributing to close to 60% of the total orders received. Right now, our main focus is to deliver the product to the customer at the earliest so that they don’t have to wait too long” he added.
