Tata began the name hunt campaign called Fantastico for the Zica hatchback as it sounds reminiscent to the Zika virus. After receiving more than 37,000 recommendations, Tata has shortlisted three names- Tata Adore, Tata Civet and Tata Tiago and asked for viewer’s choice for the best name. After few days, Tata motors have announced a new name Tiago for the hatchback and will be launched by end of March 2016.
The hatchback is 3746mm long, 1647mm wide and 1535mm tall and has a wheelbase of 2400mm. Tiago offers 22 utility spaces inside the cabin with 242 liters of boot space.
To be launched in both petrol and diesel, it develops 69bhp of max power@4000rpm and 140Nm of peak torque@1800-3000rpm from 1.0 litre turbo diesel engine. It also comes with 1.2l Revotron petrol mill which is good for 84bhp@6000rpm and 114Nm of peak torque@3500rpm. Transmission duty is held by 5-speed manual gearbox on both the engines and at a later stage it might get an AMT.
Some of the interior features include connect Next Harmon Kardon infotainment system with Smartphone enabled navigation, USB, bluetooth and Juke app support. In addition it also boasts of electric power steering wheel with audio controls, automatic climate control, dual beige dashboard, black seats, cooled glove box etc.
The Tiago bears different design cues from other Tata cars like it flaunts a wide smiling radiator signature grille with bug eye swept headlamps, ORVM with LED turn blinkers and it rides on 14 inches five spoke alloy wheels. The rear sports C-shaped wraparound tail lamps, flanked by roof spoiler, body color bumper with reverse parking sensors.
To rival against the likes of Hyundai i10, Maruti Suzuki Celerio and Chevrolet beat, we expect to be priced between Rs. 3.6-5.2 lakhs (ex-showroom).
