Tata’s latest offering Tiago (erstwhile Zica) seems to tick all the boxes right and getting a warm response from the buyers as its bookings already crossed the 20,000 mark. Since the vehicle has received such excellent numbers, Tata is not resting on its current laurel and pepping up for the launch of the soft roader crossover version of the hatch which was showcased at 2016 Indian Auto Expo. Like SUV and sedan segment, Crossover hasn’t really shines up yet so it would be tough for Tata to crack it.
Apart from Hyundai i20 active, other cars in the segment like Volkswagen Cross Polo, Toyota Etios Cross and even Fiat Avventura are barely seen on Indian streets. Now, to join the bandwagon Tata Tiago Aktiv will be launched soon and according to reports its production will begin in a few days.
To be on a safer side, initially Tata will be manufacturing it on limited numbers or made to the order basis and after seeing customer response the company will go for mass production if needed. Basic silhouette of Aktiv will remain similar to standard hatchback; the only difference would be the accessories, some cosmetic changes and added features.
The images of Aktiv crossover have emerged online which showcase matte black honeycomb grille flanked by smoked headlamps, modified front and rear bumpers with aluminium finish strip and number plates with name Kite 4. In addition it also gets new multi spoke alloy wheels, contrasting roof rails and matte black mould.
Expect Tiago Aktiv to be powered by the same range of engines of standard Tiago i.e. 1.2l Revotron Petrol and 1.05l Revotorq diesel engines. Expect this crossover version to be 30,000-40,000 higher than its standard cousins.
