Nissan affordable subsidiary brand Datsun is considering the launch of a new three cylinder 1.0 litre petrol engine replacing the current 1.2l engine that produces 67bhp power@5000rpm and 104Nm of high torque@4000rpm. The 1.0 litre Petrol engine will make its debut in the Renault Kwid in the coming months which is expected to deliver around 65bhp.

Though the 1199cc engine delivers a lively driving experience to its riders but feels slightly overpowered at times given that the Go hatch just weighs 788 kgs. Adding up, the 1.2l Micra sourced unit consists full of expensive imported components whereas the 1000cc engine sources more than 97% of its components from the home country thereby making it cost effective unit.Datsun Go Side View Exteriors

To employ new engine inside Go hatch, Datsun needs to make some changes in the suspension set up and braking mechanism as the engine is based on new CMF-A platform. Currently, Datsun Go is available for Rs. 3.26 lakh for the base and it goes up to Rs. 4.14 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) for the top spec T (O) trim.

The design and interior will remain unaltered; the hatchback is equipped with front power windows, Mobile docking station with USB charger and aux-in support, speed sensitive wipers, central locking, 360 degree ac vents etc. If Datsun offers an AMT and some safety features with the upcoming 1.0 litre engine that would make it a more potent product.
