Tata Motors to launch GenX Nano on May 19, 2015, dealers across the country are accepting bookings for the same at Rs. 5000. Tata motor is on the damage control mode as the Nano campaign backfired dejectedly due to its cheapest car image. Since 2009, Tata motor is trying different things to erase that tag by introducing power steering variant, CNG variant etc but none of them able to convert it into good sales number for the company.
The GenX Nano is by far most comprehensive version of Nano till now with tons of new features, various cosmetic changes and most importantly an AMT gearbox and openable boot lid. These changes might help Nano to put stronger fight against Hyundai EON and Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 and it will not remain a Rs. 1 Lakh hatchback anymore.
In terms of changes GenX Nano flaunts:-
Exterior changes:
- Honeycomb infinity grille
- Revised bumper with ‘Smiley’ air duct and round air dams
- Large Smoked headlamps with Nano etching
- Sangria Red new body paint option
- New Alloy wheels
- Redesigned rear bumper
- Openable tail gate
Interior changes:
- New Three spoke steering wheel like Zest and Bolt
- Updated audio system
- Chrome accents around A/C vents
- New Seat upholstery
- AMT gearbox
Under the hood, it would continue to get same old 624cc petrol engine that produces 37bhp power and 51Nm of peak torque. It will be launched in four trims- XE, XM, XT and XTA, the top end variant will be equipped with an AMT easy shift transmission. The manual variant would deliver 23.6 KMPL of mileage while AMT is rated to deliver 21.4 KMPL ARAI certified mileage.
With these updates and new transmission expect a bump up in price of GenX Nano and expect it to cost at Rs. 2.75 lakh (Ex-showroom Delhi).
