The long wait is finally over! After forced name change and numerous delays Tata Tiago has been launched in India. The car was earlier named as Zica but due to Zika virus controversy, Tata changed its name to Tiago via name hunt contest. It was showcased at 2016 Indian Auto expo and looks promising from the outset. It will be produced at Tata’s Gujarat based plant and will lock its horns against Hyundai i10, Maruti Suzuki Celerio and Chevrolet beat.

Tiago’s bookings already started since 10 March for Rs. 10,000 and deliveries will begin from today onwards. The vehicle is expected to play very crucial role in boosting the downhill sales graph of Tata motors.

Price:

First step is always a crucial one and it seems Tata has taken the right step in pricing Tiago. Available in five variants-XB, XE, XMXT and XZ, base petrol variant starts at Rs. 3.20 lakhs which goes up to Rs. 4.75 lakh for the top end mill. While the entry level diesel version is available for just Rs. 3.94 lakh and the high end diesel mill is available for Rs. 5.54 lakh. All prices are ex-showroom Delhi.

Engine Details:

Tata Tiago is making its presence felt in Petrol as well as Diesel engines- The 1.2l three cylinders Revotron Petrol engine develops 83.8bhp of max power@6000rpm and high torque of 114Nm@3500rpm with first in segment multi drive modes- Power and Eco. The 1.02 litre Revotorq diesel mill is good for a max output of 69bhp@4000rpm with 140Nm of high torque between 1800-3000rpm.

Powering the front wheels, both the engines are linked to a 5-speed manual gearbox. No AMT for now but it will be the part of Tiago in the lifecycle. In the mileage segment, Tiago outshined its rivals as the petrol delivers an ARAI certified mileage of 23.84 KMPL while diesel produces 27.28 KMPL.

Space and Dimensions:

The hatchback is longer and wider than Celerio and beat with dimensions stand at 3746mm length, 1647mm of width and 1535mm of height. It sits on the wheelbase of 2400mm which translates into decent amount of space inside. The 170mm of ground clearance make it stands tall and absorbs all the potholes with ease. The vehicle is equipped with 22 utility spaces inside including two cup holders, driver side pocket, front door pockets, storage space under the AC vents, large glove box flanked by 240 liters of boot space.

Exterior and Interior:

The Tata is touting Tiago’s design with three Ex’s –expressive, extraordinary and exciting. When you see at Tiago first, it’s hard to recognize it as Tata’s product because it flaunts different and refreshing styling cues. The front carries a smiling face with wide humanity grille which acts as a connector between the sleek 3-dimensional headlamps adding lots of character to the car. The bonnet has a clean design while fog lamps are neatly placed too. The side profile of Tiago looks sporty and aerodynamic thanks to crease that runs from B pillars till the flared wheel arches and LED turn blinkers. The rear profile looks clean with jewel shaped tail lamps, dual tone rear bumper making it look smart.

The cabin is completely fresh with some things taken from Bolt, it features a black central console with piano black finish houses by connect next Harman Kardon infotainment system with first in segment Jukecar app and Smartphone enabled navigation. For enhanced audio experience it sports an 8-speaker surround system with Aux-in and USB support. It also gets chrome accented orange or red side AC vents, height adjustable driver’s seat, electrically adjustable ORVMs, fixed headrests, 60:40 rear seat spilt, multi function steering wheel with bluetooth telephony and audio controls, power windows etc.

Colors:

Tata Tiago is available in six color shades– Sunburst orange, Platinum Silver, Espresso brown, Pearlescent white, berry red and Striker blue.

Safety:

In the Safety Segment, Tata has equipped it with dual front airbags, anti-lock braking system (ABS), electronic brake force distribution (EBD), cornering stability control, rear parking sensors, remote central locking, clutch lock, engine immobilizer, 3-pointer front seat belt, speed sensing auto door lock to compliment the energy absorbing body structure.
