Toyota India has introduced Camry facelift along with its Hybrid variant in India, priced at Rs. 28.80 Lakh for the petrol (ex-showroom Delhi) and 31.20 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) for Hybrid version. The new version was revealed last year at the 2014 New York auto show and is on sale in various international markets. The facelifted version carries various cosmetic changes and minor tweaks with no change under the hood. So let’s see how it is different from the previous one.
Price:
The Petrol variant of 2015 Camry comes at a sticker price of Rs. 28.80 lakh while the hybrid variant would cost at Rs. 31.20 lakh, both the prices of Ex-showroom Delhi. The 2015 Camry would get the benefit of Government’s FAME initiative (Faster adoption and manufacturing of Hybrid and electric vehicles in India) scheme and would get the benefit up to Rs. 70,000 INR (only limited to Hybrid variant).
Engine details:
No changes have been in the engine department of 2015 Camry, both the variants are powered by a same 2.5L four cylinder petrol engine. The 2.5L engine in pure petrol avatar is good enough to produce 178bhp power@6000rpm and 233Nm torque@4100rpm paired to a 6-speed automatic transmission while the Hybrid with the same engine makes 202bhp power and 451Nm torque match to a electronically controlled CVT transmission.
The new Camry returns 19.1 KMPL of ARAI Certified mileage while CO2 levels are reduced to 122.8 g/km.
Space and Dimensions:
Toyota Camry is known for its best in segment space and the new version is not different at all. 2015 Camry is 4850mm long, 1825mm wide and 1480mm tall with the wheelbase of 2775mm. The Camry has 160mm of ground clearance and comes with generous boot space of 436 liters.
Exterior and Interior:
With this update, Toyota has made the premium sedan stylish than before with redesigned grille with chrome strip on it, new halogen projector headlamps with LED daytime running lights, Trapezoidal large air intakes with chrome finishing, rounded fog lamps completes the luxurious looks of new Camry.
The 2015 Camry now rides on new 10 spoke 17 inch alloy wheels, while the rest side profile remains same as the current model. Coming to the rear side, Camry gets revised bumper with minor changes to the boot-lid, refreshed tail lamps with LEDs for fresh feel and thin chrome line that divides the tail lamps into two.
On the inside, new Camry has carried over the overall layout from the outgoing model with some prominent changes such as a three spoke multi-function steering wheel, better screen for 6.1 inch infotainment system and 4.2 inch TFT screen for instrument cluster.
Dashboard is also tweak like button layout is slightly different, new shade of beige color for the interiors, blue mood lighting for the cabin, seat with heat function and a new wooden trim finish.
Colors:
2015 Toyota Camry will be sold in four exterior shades in India- Attitude black, Beige Metallic, Silver metallic and white pearl crystal shine color.
Safety:
Toyota has provided a long list of safety features in 2015 Camry like seven airbags including front airbags for driver and passenger, full length curtain airbag, knee airbags for driver, anti-lock braking system (ABS) with electronic brake force distribution(EBD) with brake assist, ECB ( electronic controlled brake system, hill start assist control.
It also has rear parking camera with corner sensors and display assistance, impact sensing fuel cut off technology, speed sensing auto-lock, vehicle stability control, hill start assist control, front seats 3-point ELR seatbelts with pre-tensioners and force limiter, cruise control and rear fog lamp.
In 2014 Toyota sold 720 Camry sedans in India and of which 523 were Hybrid models and FAME initiative will certainly help the Camry as it gets incentive of Rs. 70,000. The new Camry will follow the same CKD route to keep the cost low.
