The Hyundai Elantra has been present in India since 2012 and received a minor facelift in 2015, everyone was hoping that Hyundai might showcase the sixth Gen Elantra at the recent Delhi Auto Expo but it didn’t happen. Months after the event, the fully camouflaged mule of new Elantra has been spotted on test run on the roads of Tamilnadu which indicates its launch is around the corner.
The mule was heavily camouflaged thus not exposing any kind of design or interior detail. The new model has been a big hit in various international markets including South Korea, Europe, Africa, and Middle East etc. Now, rumors are rife that Hyundai might launch new Elantra by mid of this year in India and it might carry price brackets between Rs. 13 to 17 lakhs (ex-showroom).
The new Gen model is distinctively separate from its predecessor especially the front fascia with massive elongated hexagonal grille, HID headlights with LED DRLs, inset fog lamps, front splitter. It also features coupe like stance, new chunky alloy wheels and shark fin antenna while the seep creases make the design sharper.
The rear seems to get inspired by Hyundai luxury brand Genesis especially the combo LED tail lights. The Hyundai will offer new Elantra in six color shades- Red passion, Polar white, mystic blue, Phantom black, Midas gold and sleek silver. The new model is 20mm longer and 25mm wider than its predecessor which translates into better cabin space.
The cabin of 2016 Elantra will be based on upcoming Tucson SUV and will get features such as new three spoke multi-function steering wheel, centrally mounted touchscreen infotainment system with satellite navigation and Android auto, black-grey dashboard with chrome accents. The goodies list is quite large as it will get adjustable and heated ORVMs, keyless entry, start/stop button, two zone automatic climate control, leather upholstery, electric adjustable driver’s seat, rear AC vents, cooled glove box, rear Armrests and much more.
A top notch suite of safety aids are available on new GEN Elantra such as blind spot detection, front-rear parking sensors, rear cross traffic alert, autonomous emergency braking, eight airbags, high beam assist, blind spot detection etc.
Coming to the core part i.e. powertrains, new Elantra will receive 1.6 GDi petrol, a 1.6l VGT CRDi diesel and 2.0l MPI. Transmission duties are held by a 6-speed manual, 6-speed automatic and dual clutch 7-speed automatic.
