After launching 15 new products in Indian which include A-class to G63 AMG, the German auto giant Mercedes-Benz is not done yet. The carmaker will kick start its 2016 with the launch with its new sports coupe GLE AMG 450 coupe on 12 January 2016. The renamed Rival class will rival against the BMW X6 and it will be the first model to receive the all new three digit AMG badging.
At a first glance, the coupe flaunts a diamond pattern single slate grille flanked by LED headlamps, aggressive big front bumper, dual shade alloy wheels, sloping roofline, dual tail exhausts, LED tail lamps and AMG sporty body kit giving it a sporty look.
On the Inside, it is beautified with premium leather upholstery available in dual color shade, carbon fibre with piano black finish, an eight inch freestanding display with command infotainment system, AMG sport seats, Nappa leather wrapped three spoke AMG steering wheel, ambient lighting. The premium coupe cum SUV also bears automatic climate control, rear view camera with display, cruise control, stainless steel pedals with rubber studs, auto dimming IRVMs, retraceable and adjustable ORVMs and much more.
The GLE coupe is said to have a perfect blend of liveliness, dynamism and sportiness of the coupe while offering the practicality, versatility and road presence of a SUV. The coupe gets the power from a 3.0 litre V6 twin turbo petrol engine producing 362bhp@5500-6000rpm and peak torque of 520Nm between 1800-4000rpm.
Power is sent to all wheels courtesy 4-matic wheel system and a 9G tronic automatic transmission. It also replete five transmission modes- individual, comfort, slippery, Sport and Sport+ with control on central console. The car can attain 0-100 kmph in just 5.7 seconds with an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/hr.
Besides, reverse parking camera with display guidance the coupe comes with several other standard safety aids such as collision prevention assist plus, multiple airbags, BAS plus, cross traffic assist, ESP, crosswind assist, curve dynamic assist to name a few.
The car will be brought to India as a CBU unit to be imported from the Merc’s Tuscaloosa plant in USA and expected to hold a price tag of Rs. 60-70 lakhs (ex-showroom).
