2015 will not only see the launch of Mercedes CLA sedan but also the Cabriolet version of Merc’s popular E class sedan in India. Riding high on a fruitful 2014, the luxury car maker Mercedes is planning a wide range of products in India and among those most attention seeker would the E400 cabriolet which is all set to be launched in the first half of 2015.
The luxury Trio of Audi, BMW and Mercedes are fighting a neck to neck competition for the top spot in which winning can only be achieved by keep updating your product range constantly. In 2014 Audi has won this battle by becoming the first car maker among the trio to sell over 10,000+ units in a single year in India.
Mercedes E400 Cabriolet is available with set of engines in international markets- A3.0L twin turbo V6 and 3.5L V6 engines mated to 9-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters. But in most of the markets E400 is powered to a 3.0L V6 petrol engine which develops 328bhp power and 480Nm of peak torque. This setup can accelerate to a ton in 5.3 seconds with the electronically limited speed up to 250 km/hr.
In terms of features Cabriolet gets a soft roof top that can be open and close at the speeds up to 40 km/hr, Harmon Kardon audio system, 360 degree reverse camera, Mercedes latest command surface, premium quality cabin, AIRSCARF neck level heating system, front-rear wind deflector.
The E400 also comes with safety features like Pre-safe brake with active pedestrian protection, Pre-safe plus, Distonic plus with steering etc.
We expect Mercedes Benz to launch Cabriolet in the first half of 2015 and it won’t be cheap with an expected price of 85-90 lakhs because it will be brought in as CBU (completely built unit). In India E400 has only one rival Audi A3 Cabriolet which is priced at Rs. 44.75 lakhs.
