So, just as we told you about Maruti’s daring plans for entering the bigger segment market of cars with its upcoming Ciaz, we already received yet another news of Maruti’s insanity as it was caught testing its Auto Expo showcased Cross Country or a Compact SUV version of the SX4, The SX4 S-Cross. It is been said that Maruti is planning something really bigger this time with its upcoming launches as expected to start really soon. And as for the S-Cross, it was noticed being tested around the northern regions of Himachal, away from the mainstream media exposure, still we somehow managed to pull off this secret and veiled testing of S-Cross by Maruti and here is what we got to know about the car as far.

Table of Contents

Design and Style

In the design elementary, the car as we noticed on tests and also during the Auto Expo sessions is going to be based surely on the SX4 sedan minus the bulge and bulk. The car is expected to arrive with larger headlamps with LED DRL and projectors to come as standard, large front chrome grille, sleeker than ever hood, two tone bumpers with air intakes as standard. Just like the Ciaz, this Cross version is also going to be concentrated towards a more edgy and sleeker overall design profile, again based on Suzuki’s Authentic Concept Scheme. Side profile is also going to be a lot chiseled with more pronounced character lines, aluminum claddings and sharpness. While the rear end may look more sporty with a back similar to that of the big Audi SUVs with LED treatment for the rear lamps. All in all, the car is going to be a handsome package but some features may be scaled down till the time it gets down into the production line, but we won’t expect that to happen for sure.

Technical Information

Being a Cross version of the SX4 and similarly the upcoming Ciaz, the S-Cross is expected to breathe through the similarly proposed 1.4 litre K-Series petrol and a 1.3 litre Multijet diesel engines, with an addition of 1.6 litre Multijet diesel engine is also proposed. Obviously, the same engines will be boost to exhale more while consuming less mated to a 5-speed MT system or an optional CVT box can also be there. Still, it is all under a big veil about what the company will finally do.

Apart from that, the car, unlike other Compact SUVs, is going to be measured bigger at around 4310 x 1840 x 1600 mm with a long wheelbase of around 2600 mm as we managed to sniff out which clearly directs towards roomier interior space and better internal ergonomics.

Interiors and Safety

Things are not much clear as of now about how the exact interiors are going to be. But still, as from what we saw in the Auto Expo, and if it won’t get altered much till the time of production, then a very classy black and beige interior is going to be there with very sleek and sharp, high quality black dash and evenly luxurious black leather upholstery. Apart from that, there is going to be a lot of aluminum feels inside of the car with various trimmings all around, the wheel and the instrument console are going to be borrowed from the Swift hatchback with mounted controls, a central touch infotainment system looks niche with features like Auto Climate Control etc. The rear is going to be comfortable as well with better spacing and features for rear passengers.

And finally, coming to the safety department of the car, it is expected to implicate features like ABS+EBD, 2 Airbags, 16″more stable wheels, engine immobilizer, central locking, side impact beams etc as standard.

Price and Launch Date

Nothing is yet clear as of now, still the sources suggest that the car will be launched soon till the festive season along with the Ciaz sedan at a price range of around 9-12 lakhs according to the features and other aspects kept in mind.
