After making Swift, Wagon R, Stingray and Dzire safe, Maruti has now decided to boost up the safety of its revolutionary car Celerio, country’s first AMT car. The automajor has now announced the inclusion of dual front airbags and ABS as option on base L and V trims. Until now these safety features were only available in the top Z (O) variant while the Z trim was available with driver side airbag only.
The eco friendly CNG VXI (O) variant will continue to come with only dual front airbags and it misses out on ABS. Along with the safety enhancement, MSIL also confirmed that the famous AMT aka AGS (Auto gear shift) gearbox will now be the part of LXI (O) trim.
The Celerio was launched in February 2014. It has been masses favorite car as till now Maruti has sold over 1.3 lakh units which means it sells over 6500 units a month. This addition of safety features seems to attract safety centric buyers who have been ignoring Maruti just because it lacks safety.
It will continue to come with tried and tested 1.0-litre K10 petrol that develops 67bhp of max power and 90Nm of peak torque@3500rpm and 0.8-litre twin cylinder diesel engine which is good for 47bhp and 125Nm of torque. The car is also available with CNG fuel option while transmission options offered a 5 speed manual as standard on both along with the automated Manual Transmission (AMT).

By offering safety features like airbags for driver and co-driver, and Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) from the base variant onwards in Celerio, we are making it more attractive for customers. I am happy that we are able to offer these safety features on Celerio much ahead of regulations.”
