Mahindra after launching its SUV Scorpio’s facelift version last week is now in the news for it’s another vehicle ‘Quanto’. Mahindra showcased it during the Indian Auto Expo held early this year; Quanto will get an AMT transmission as a result of it will be the first Diesel compact SUV to get an automatic transmission. According to the sources, M&M is planning its launch in December 2014.
Quanto will not any major changes besides the automatic transmission, mechanically it will continue to offer 1.5L mCR100 3 cyl Diesel engine which produces 98.6BHP power@3750rpm and 240nm of peak torque@1600-2800rpm supporting the same rear wheel drive system. Gear knob will surrounded with number of modes like E button which is lever defaulter which is accompanied with two more alphabets N & R. You will find three more markings there M, – and +.
New Automatic Transmission of Quanto will have certain advantages like higher fuel efficiency; body weight remains same unlike the conventional AMT which increases the overall weight of Vehicle and the important them all is the clutch less driving experience, So Quanto will have only two pedals like the conventional automatic transmission cars.
Interior wise Quanto AMT will feature some interior changes like two tone seats upholstery, better quality materials expected in cabin, besides it Quanto AMT will be same like the Current Quanto. Dashboard of current Quanto is basic and you might get the same simple design again on AMT Quanto which is disappointment. Instrument cluster carries some gizmos like small screen displaying current speed, outside temperature, average fuel consumption etc.
On the Exterior, Quanto gives resemblance of Xylo from the front, though Quanto is equipped with simple front bumper with underneath fog lights, aggressive headlights. Side and rear of Quanto will remain moreover same with some minor tweaks.
Expected price of Quanto AMT will be around Rs. 6.5 to 8 lakh and it will compete against the likes of ford Eco sport, Maruti Ertiga, Honda Mobilio and Renault Duster; but all these cars is mated to manual transmission so Quanto has slight edge over them in transmission department.
