Launch of Jeep Compass: Price, Specifications and Features

After months of speculations and teasing, Jeep has officially launched Compass SUV in India. Revealed in September last year, Compass is the most affordable offering from Jeep in India. Jeep started accepting bookings for the SUV at a token amount of Rs. 50,000 and latest reports suggest that it has received over 4000 bookings which are really impressive numbers. The Jeep is manufactured at Fiat’s Ranjangaon facility, near Pune with close to 65 percent localization. In addition, it will be exported from India to right-hand drive markets like Japan, Australia etc.

Price:

Available in ten variants, Jeep Compass starts at Rs. 14.95 lakh for the base petrol and goes up to Rs. 19.40 lakh for the top variant. The diesel is priced at Rs. 15.45 lakh for the entry level variant and Rs. 20.65 lakh the range topping trim.

Engine Details:

The Jeep Compass is available in both petrol (1.4l) and diesel (2.0l) engines. The former makes 160bhp power and 260Nm of torque while the latter is good for 170bhp power and 350Nm of high torque. Both the engines come mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox while petrol will be available with a 7-speed dual clutch automatic gearbox. The diesel motor will be available with the 4*4 system. The SUV claims an ARAI rated mileage of 17.1 Kmpl. Jeep also offering four drive modes- Sand, Snow, Mud and Auto.

Space and Dimensions:

The five seater Jeep compass measures 4395mm in length, 1818mm in width and 1640mm in height. The SUV offers an impressive ground clearance of 205mm and boot space of 410 litres.

Exterior and Interior:

The Compass looks smaller version of the beast Grand Cherokee especially from the front flanked by features like seven slate signature front grille with chrome, Quad halogen headlamps with LED daytime running lights, LED cornering fog lamps and muscular bumper with the wide air dam. Sides include 16-inch alloy wheels, ORVMs with LED indicators, sloping roofline with chrome accent above the window line. Rear sports roof spoiler and LED tail lamps.

The cabin is a delight to be in with features like a 7-inch U connect infotainment system with Android auto, Apple car play, inbuilt compass, voice command, Bluetooth audio, USB and Aux-in support. Other features include dual tone interiors with grey leather upholstery, panoramic glass roof, 12V power socket, leather wrapped multi-function steering wheel, 4 speakers, 3.5-inch driver instrument cluster, sliding armrest, 60/40 rear seat split, rear armrest with cup holders, dual zone auto climate control and much more.

Colors:

The Jeep is offering Compass in five exciting colour shades: Vocal white, minimal grey, exotica red, brilliant black and Hydro blue.

Safety:

Safety features include dual front airbags, ABS (Anti-lock braking system), EBD (electronic brake force distribution) as standard across the range. The top variants get six airbags, electronic parking brake (EPB), reverse parking camera, electric stability control, push start button, hill start assist, electronic roll mitigation, double crank prevention system, disc brakes on four wheels, seat belt latch with dual locking tongue, active turn signals, ISOFIX child seats, cornering fog lamps and dynamic torque etc.
