One of the most awaited SUVs from the Jeep, the compass will be launched in India by August this year. The production of Jeep Compass has begun at company’s Ranjangaon facility and it will be exported to the RHD markets like UK and Japan. Fiat Motor has rolled out first Made in India Compass off the production capacity and Maharashtra’s Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis was present at the roll out ceremony.
The India bound Jeep compass will be available in three variants– Sport, Longitude and limited. Powering it will be 1.4l Turbo MultiAir2 petrol that makes 160bhp power and 250Nm of torque, linked to a 7-speed DDCT automatic transmission. There will also be a 2.0 litre diesel that delivers 170bhp and 350Nm of torque with a 6-speed manual gearbox. The compass will be offered with front wheel drive as standard while AWD and Jeep’s Selec-Terrain management system will be available as optional.
With five-seater configuration, Jeep Compass measures 4398 mm in length, 1819 mm in width and 1667 mm in height. It rides on a 2636 mm long wheelbase and offers a ground clearance of 178 mm. The SUV will be available with an array of active and passive safety features such six airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic roll-over mitigation, reverse parking camera, hill start assist, panic brake assist and brake pre-fill.
The SUV has a vertically slated front chrome grille flanked by LED headlamps, clamshell bonnet and muscular front bumper for a typical SUV stance. The 17 inch diamond cut alloy wheels, flared wheel arches, thick C-pillars and LED tail lamps adds to the overall profile of compass. For comfort and convenience it gets 8-inch touchscreen system with Android auto, Apple car play, LED driver instrument panel, perforated leather seats, two-zone automatic climate control and much more.
With an expected price of Rs. 20 lakh (ex-showroom), it will compete with Hyundai Tucson, Honda CR-V and upcoming Volkswagen Tiguan.
