Hyundai will be adding another SUV named Kona to their line-up soon. Images of undisguised Kona have surfaced online ahead of its debut next month. The i20 based SUV sports progressive design based on advanced fluidic technology. It will be first launched in Europe before making its way into the other markets. The SUV will be slotted below Tucson and takes on Toyota C-HR, Nissan Juke, Renault Captur and Honda HR-V in the International markets.
The Spied images were snapped in Portugal during Kona’s TVC shoot disclosing aggressive design cues of the car. The SUV/ crossover look leaner than its hatchback sibling with the trapezoidal single-frame grille which is accompanied by sleek LED headlamps, blackened air intakes and circular fog lamps for off-road styling. The futuristic front is flanked by accentuated wheel arches; multi spoke alloy wheels, receding roofline, integrated spoiler, roof rails, contrast black roof and LED tail lamps.
The cabin remains a mystery but it is expected to get design cues from current i20 with minor tweaks and new features. Features like new multimedia infotainment system with Apple car play and Android Auto, adaptive cruise control, blind spot detection, and autonomous emergency braking system are likely to be offered as standard on European spec model.
While i20 could be the base for the cabin, i30 is likely to be the inspiration for engine and other under the hood set up. It will borrow the same powertrains of i30 which includes 1.0 litre and 1.4l Turbocharged petrol engine alongside a 1.6l diesel mill.
We aren’t sure if Hyundai will bring Kona to India but if launched it will be slotted below Creta SUV and will compete with Ford Eco Sport, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza and upcoming Renault Captur.
