The wait is finally over! The sixth generation Hyundai Elantra has been launched in India at an introductory price of Rs. 12.99 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Available in total nine variants, Hyundai is offered in petrol and diesel engines, five color shaded and two transmission options. The D-segment sedan was globally unveiled last year and now the carmaker has brought it into the Indian market. Based on completely new platform, the new Elantra has vastly improved over the outgoing model and it will be locally assembled at company’s Chennai production facility. Price:

One can opt for Hyundai Elantra in five grades- S, SX, SX AT, SX (O) and SX (O) AT in both petrol and diesel. The base petrol starts is available at a surprisingly affordable price of Rs. 12.99 lakh and goes up to Rs. 17.99 lakh for the top end SX (O) AT variant. The Oil burner starts at Rs. 14.79 lakh while the top end SX (O) AT variant sets you back at Rs. 19.19 lakh. All the prices are of ex-showroom Delhi.

Engine Details:

The sixth Gen Elantra is offered with a new 2.0 litre MPi petrol engine and 1.6l CRDi diesel engine. The naturally aspirated petrol engine can make 150bhp power@6200rpm and 190Nm of torque@4000rpm. The 1.6l Oil burner has been carried over from the top end models of Creta and new Verna, the engine dishes out max output of 126bhp@4000rpm and 265Nm torque between 1900-2750rpm. Both the engines can be had in six speed manual and automatic gearboxes. The 1.6l diesel MT delivers segment best ARAI rated mileage of 22.4 Kmpl while AT is good for 18.23 Kmpl.

Space and Dimensions:

The new model comes with number of changes as compared to ongoing model; Elantra is now 20mm longer, 25mm wider and 5mm taller. New Dimensions stand at 4570mm in length, 1800mm in width, and 1465mm in height but it sits on identical wheelbase of 2700mm. It rides on R16 Silica tyres and offers ground clearance of 165mm.

Exterior and interior:

Hyundai Elantra sits on revoked version of previous Gen platform and has bid adieu brand fluidic platform for more clean and crisp design. The front fascia wears low slung multi-slat front chrome grille, tapered projector headlamps with LED DRLs and guide light and boomerang shaped fog lamps makes saloon modern. The coupe like sloping roofline, new 16 inch metal grey finish alloy wheels, short rear overhangs and new stylish LED tail lamps make for an interesting new gen model.

The cabin design and traits have been borrowed from Hyundai’s global range; the quality has taken a notch ahead with Avant grade materials inside. It also gets long list of features like 8 inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto, Apple car play, USB-Aux-in, satellite navigation and voice recognition. Then there is dual zone climate control, electric seats, audio cruise control, 3.5 inch TFT instrument cluster, cooled glove box, leather treatment for gear knob, steering wheel. Not to forget sunroof, front seats ventilation, rear AC vents, premium Leatherite Upholstery, aluminium pedals, electro chromic mirror, eco and sport driving modes.

Colors:

The 2016 Hyundai Elantra is available in five gracious colors- Marina Blue, Sleek Silver, Polar White, Red Passion and Phantom black.

Safety:

The South Korean automajor has brought in the makeover in this department as well; it is equipped with an array of safety aides and gets driver and passenger side airbag as standard across the range. The top trim receives as many as six airbags including side and curtain airbags, audio cruise control (ACC), hill start assist control (HAC), electronic stability control (ESC), rear parking camera with starying adaptive guidelines, impact and speed sensing auto door unlock, ABS with EBD, vehicle stability management (VSM), electronic stability control (ESC), projector fog lamps, automatic headlight control, clutch lock, front height adjustable seat belts with pre-tensioner, rear disc brakes and rear parking sensors.
