This year could be memorialized as the year of recalls more than new car launches as it has been the trend in Indian car market. The latest player join the bandwagon is Chevrolet beat diesel, GM has announced a voluntary recall of 1, 01,597 units of the hatchback manufactured during December 2010 and July 2014 to replace defective clutch pedal lever.
General Motors India said in a statement, “The Company has started voluntarily notifying owners of the Beat Diesel to take their cars to any of Chevrolet’s 248 authorized service centers across India.
The Chevrolet is contacting the customers and asking them to take the car to nearest service center; they will inspect the car and will rectify it free of cost. On the contrary, Customers can itself contact their nearest Chevrolet dealership and schedule an appointment for vehicle inspection and correction.
This is not for the first time GM has issued a recall this year; in July 2015 Company had recalled over 1.55 lakh units Enjoy MPV, beat and Spark hatchback over faulty wiring of remote keyless entry system. Also in 2013, 1.14 lakh units of Tavera MPV were recalled over emission concerns.
The Chevrolet Beat diesel is one of the fuel efficient cars in India with the mileage of 25.44 KMPL and powered by a 1.0 l SmartTech diesel engine good for 56bhp power@4000rpm and 142.5Nm of high torque@1750rpm. In 2016, Chevrolet will launch new beat and Cruze premium sedan after making its official unveiling at the next year Auto expo.
Last week Honda had announced a recall of 90,210 units of MPV Mobilio and city sedan to replace fuel return pipe produced during the period of December 2013 to July 2015. This year has also witnessed the largest recall of vehicles in the country when VW announced a recall over 3.23 lakh units over emission scandal popularly known as Dieselgate scam.
