Honda City has been one of the best-selling sedans in the country and it continues to unlock achievements one after another. Now, the fourth generation City sedan has surpassed a sales milestone of 2.5 lakh units in just over 3 years. In addition, the sedan has clocked 3.5 million units in more than 55 countries. India is probably City’s biggest market as it accounts more than 25 percent of sedan’s global sales and cumulatively City has retailed more than 6.8 lakh units in the Indian market.
The biggest reason for its popularity in India is due to the inclusion of 1.5l I-Dtec diesel engine which made City a favorite car of Indian masses. It also comes equipped with several features such as 7-inch touchscreen system, reverse parking camera, keyless entry, electric sunroof, steering mounted audio controls, cruise control, automatic conditioner, leather seats, dual front airbags, ABS with EBD and much more.
The Honda City gets its juice from a 1.5l i-DTEC diesel engine that makes 99bhp@3600rpm and 200Nm of torque@1750rpm, linked to a 6-speed manual gearbox. The petrol segment is taken care by a 1.5l i-VTEC petrol engine that churns out 117bhp power and 145Nm of torque, linked to a 5-speed manual and a CVT unit.
Speaking about the milestone achieved by Honda City in India, Mr. Yoichiro Ueno, President & CEO, Honda Cars India, said, “The Honda City is an important pillar of Honda’s business and success in India. With its new-generation technologies, the 4th Generation City meets our customers’ aspirations for a premium product. It is also a testimony of our commitment to bring the best models and technologies for our customers in India. I would like to thank our customers for their support to the model.”
