Ford’s popular sub compact SUV, EcoSport is going under the scanner for a mild update before India get the facelifted model, which was recently revealed at Los Angeles auto show. But prior to that carmaker is planning a mild update for the current model which will strictly feature centric along with few cosmetic changes.
Most important will be the addition of a touchscreen infotainment system and this would bring it in line with Vitara Brezza which offers a touchscreen system on the top trims. Ford has been facing heating from Vitara Brezza which has dented EcoSport’s sales in an immense manner. Ford had even slashed prices of EcoSport to make it more value for money with respect to Vitara’s pricing.
The touchscreen system will be offered on Titanium plus variant with petrol and diesel powertrains. It will be an 8-inch unit, which will be supported by satellite navigation, DVD player, bluetooth connectivity and door ajar warning. It will be placed at the mobile dock station and replace the 3.5 inch MID unit. The new system will boost the price of the trim by up to Rs. 20,000.
The sad part will be the exclusion of certain features such as cooled glove box, lumbar support, chrome scuff plates, driver seat armrest and leather-wrapped handbrake & gear shift knob, reclining rear seats and 60/40 split for rear seats, etc. Expect ford to make official announcement soon.
Coming to the 2017 model, which is likely to be launched near the upcoming festive season. The facelifted styled in line with Ford’s international SUV range along with Indian car design like tail mounted spare wheel.
