Chevrolet Sail UVA – Expert Reviews

Chevrolet Sail U-VA is a hatchback which comes in both diesel and petrol versions. Chevy has given this car a fresh face with modified front grill, hawk wing headlamps, tail lamps, rear bumper and side curves. All this change give U-VA a better look now than it’s outgoing model. The front grill give essentially a look of a bow-tie with Chevrolet logo acting as a bow. The radiator grill at the bottom is also honey-comb style, which further adds to the front looks. But the car has average looks than other hatchbacks in competition but the car has good mileage figure and is available at an affordable price, which 2 factors play the most imp role in deciding the future of the car.

The specifications are same as in Sail sedan. It has 1.3l Smartech diesel engine with 1298 cc displacement. The ORVMs are electrically adjustable, the seating level is apt and gives good front visibility, and also the rear windscreen is angled in just the right way to provide perfect visibility especially while parking. The top model possesses Alloy wheels with Apollo tyres arched in it. The car is quite spacious to seat 5 commuters comfortably with adequate legroom but headroom at rear might be an issue for tall commuters; it is easy to get in and out of the car. The fabric upholstery coupled with Coffee and Beige gives a royal aura, but about the rest U-VA has a simple instrument panel with speedometer, tachometer, odometer and tripmeter lid by blue, red and yellow LEDs and lacks flashy and sophisticated features in contrast to cousin Beat.

The gear knob is rubbery and shifts are quick and slick, transmission is 5- speed manual only. There is no automatic transmission available in Sail U-VA and neither in Sail sedan. On the road test the car returned fuel efficiency of 12kpl in city and 14.5 kpl on highway which is quite less than 18 kpl as promised by Chevy for the petrol version. The time taken to reach 0-100 km/hr was 13.05 sec.

The car has integrated music system with radio, mp3 and CD player. Apart from that it has Bluetooth connectivity which can pair upto 5 phones and slots for USB and Aux-in. And also these are placed righty and you won’t have to struggle to find where the USB slot is, as in some cars it is inside glovebox and other hidden places. The 4-speed Air conditioner cools well at max speed only, though it also depends upon the weather outside. There are multiple stowage options starting with the front map pockets, glove box, cup holders, front seat back pockets etc. also the boot capacity is 248 l and with rear seats flat folded it increases upto 1134 l.

Other features include remote fuel filler and tailgate opener, luggage compartment lamp, day and night inside rear view mirrors, etc. Chevy has also kept in mind the passenger safety and built the car as a safe cage and included 2 airbags for front seats, seat belt reminder, engine immobiliser, child lock, central lock and inbuilt with ABS with EBD technology.

The car has average looks and even the mileage figure is less than what promised, rest you can test drive and find out.
