General Motors today unveiled the Indian spec Chevrolet Spin MPV and Trailblazer SUV at a media conference in New Delhi. The Trailblazer will be launched in October 2015 to rival against Ford Endeavour and Toyota Fortuner while the Spin will hit the Indian showrooms in 2017. Both the products are very important for the car maker as they both only are large churners but will also help GM revive its operation in India.

Besides both these cars, GM has also announced their plans to introduce Chevrolet beat hatchback, notchback and new Cruze in near future. Chevrolet today also announced a systematic investment of $ 1 billion in the country which is part of GM’s $5 billion investment cycle starring China, Brazil and Mexico. The company also claims that the new investment scheme will generate around 12,000 new jobs in India.

With this huge investment the company is aiming to strengthen its roots in the emerging markets and looking to double its sales by 2020. GM will invest majority of its investment in Chevrolet’s Talegon facility in Maharashtra while GM’s existing Halol manufacturing facility will be shut down by second half of next year.

GM CEO Mary Barra, GM India MD and President Arvind Saxena along with GM International President Stefan Jacoby met India’s honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi to give a glimpse on the General motors’ plans for the country.

“Chevrolet is committed to India for the long term,” said GM CEO Mary Barra. “We are delivering on our promise and doubling our investment in India. This will allow us to provide our Indian customers the great vehicles they want and the world-class customer experience they deserve. It will also support the government’s Make in India program.”

In international markets, the big SUV Trailblazer is available with two diesel engines- a 2.8L engine developing 200bhp power@3600rpm and 500Nm of torque@2000rpm mated with 6-speed automatic gearbox and AWD. There is a smaller 2.5L engine churning out 163bhp of max power and 380Nm torque, paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox. As per the features, it sports a 7 inch MY link touchscreen infotainment system, cruise control, steering mounted controls, dual beige interiors and modern instrument cluster.

On the contrary, Spin MPV is powered by a 1.3l diesel motor tuned to deliver decent 89bhp power and 200Nm of torque with a 5-speed manual transmission. The Spin MPV might also come with a 1.5l four cylinder petrol mill tuned to produce 107bhp power and 148Nm of torque that will coupled with a 6-speed automatic gearbox.

GM India MD and President Arvind Saxena said, “This new vehicle family will feature advanced customer-facing technologies focused on connectivity, safety and fuel efficiency delivered at a compelling value. It will be a combination of content and value not offered previously by any automaker in these markets that are poised for growth,”
