Maruti Suzuki has launched automated manual transmission (AMT) in the range topping Alpha trim of Ignis hatchback. Called as Auto gear Shift (AGS), it is available in both petrol and diesel variants priced at Rs. 7.01 lakh and 8.08 lakh respectively. The AMT was earlier available in Delta and Zeta grades. The AMT comes equipped with the same 1.2l petrol that makes 82bhp@6000rpm power and 114Nm of torque@4200rpm along with a 1.3l DDis diesel motor that makes 74bhp power@4000rpm and 190Nm of high torque@2000rpm. The range top Alpha variant is a feature feast such as 7-inch touchscreen system with Apple car play, Android Auto, four speakers, start-stop push button system, rear defogger, keyless entry, automatic climate control, height adjustable driver’s seat, Projector headlamps with LED DRLs etc.
Out of the total sales, 28 percent comes from AMT alone and now Alpha AMT with its features might tempt for customers to go for the AT. The hatchback will take on the likes of Mahindra KUV100, Hyundai Grand i10 and Honda Brio.
Commenting on the introduction of Ignis Alpha AMT, R S Kalsi, senior executive director, marketing and sales, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, said, “Our premium urban compact vehicle, the Ignis, has been created for millennials, a one of a kind brand in the Indian market. Automatic Gear Shift (AGS) on the Ignis, so far offered in the Delta and Zeta trims, has been widely appreciated by customers and accounts for 27 percent of Ignis sales. We are now offering AGS in the top Alpha trim as well. We expect this to strengthen brand Ignis and enhance the popularity of AGS amongst millennials.”
