As promised, Volkswagen has finally added an updated 1.5l TDI diesel engine to the Vento sedan. The engine is also power Skoda Rapid facelift and recently launched Ameo compact sedan. Despite being a competitive product, Vento has always remained a conservative option for buyers against Maruti Ciaz, Hyundai Verna and Honda City. With an updated engine and more power Volkswagen is hoping to turn fortune for Vento sedan. Apart from engine update, no other changes have been made to Vento.
The engine now comes with bigger turbocharger which results in power bump by 5bhp to 108bhp while peak torque stays at 250Nm. It is available with transmission options: 5-speed manual and 7-speed DSG automatic. The Vento 1.5l TDi diesel manual variant delivers an ARAI rated mileage of 22.27 Kmpl while its automatic trim gives 22.15 Kmpl.
The petrol engines remains untouched, it still gets 1.2l TSI turbocharged engine that churns out 105PS and 175Nm torque, linked to a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox. The bigger 1.6 litre MPi petrol offers 105PS of max output and 153Nm of high torque, mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox.
In addition to the updated engine, the German automaker has also added a new Silk blue color shade to the Vento sedan. It is now available in six colors- carbon steel, candy white, reflex silver, Titanium beige, toffee brown and blue silk (new color). Fortunately, the new engine hasn’t affected the prices of the sedan as Vento is still available between Rs. 8.7 lakh and 12.59 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
In terms of features, it is packed with front-rear armrest, touchscreen infotainment system with mirror link, height adjustable driver’s seat, cruise control, leather wrapped steering wheel, rear defogger, dual front airbags, anti-lock braking system (ABS), hill hold control, engine immobilizer with floating code and electronic stability program (ESP).
