Much to the rejoice of hot hatch lovers, the long wait is finally over as Volkswagen has launched its true blue performance hatch Polo GTI in India. The hottest hatch retails at Rs. 25.99 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) which is around Rs. 16 lakh costlier than its arch rival Abarth Punto priced at Rs. 9.99 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The Polo GTI will be initially available as limited edition with only 99 units up for grab in India and bookings for the car are open via Volkswagen India official website.
For such whopping price tag, you get 189bhp of gigantic output and 250Nm of torque via 1.8l TSI turbocharged engine. It propels car to make 0-100km in just 7.2 seconds while hitting the top speed of 233km/hr. Powering the front wheels, the engine is clubbed to a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox with steering mounted paddle shifters. The lightweight hatch is equipped with disc brakes on four wheels painted in red color shade.
Internationally, Polo GTI is available in three door and five door version but Indian market getting the former avatar. There are a few more elements which not only differentiate it from the regular version but also make it sportier. It receives GTI badge on honeycomb mesh front grille, LED daytime running lights, aggressive bumpers, red accents all around the body, 16 inch (17 inch optional) alloy wheels, rear spoiler and dual tip exhaust end. Volkswagen Polo GTI is available in four color schemes-Pure white, reflex silver, flash red and black.
The launch of Polo GTI might elicit the car giants in India like Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai to bring the power packed performance at more pocket friendly price.
