It seems the domestic car giant and ace SUV maker is not satisfied with its SUV line up. After launching Micro SUV KUV100, revised Quanto aka NuvoSport and TUV300, Mahindra has started its work on sub 4m version of its best seller Bolero. Information regarding baby Bolero have emerged online suggesting that it will be launched in August 2016 and will be aggressively priced.
The performance of Mahindra’s best seller has shown significant dip in recent times so this compact version might help in taking the sales graph higher. The design will be exactly similar to the standard version while wheelbase too remains unaltered at 2680mm. The new Bolero would shave off 171mm to bring it under 4m, current Gen Bolero measures 4170mm in length.
The new compact Bolero will get reduced front and rear overhangs and revamped front-rear bumpers. Apart from these changes, there will be no drastic changes to the dimensions and design. The cabin and dashboard too will be carried forward from the current Bolero.
It will continue to feature seven seating layout with last two being the jump seats just like TUV300 and NuvoSport however it is likely to get modifications in the verge to maximize space inside.
The 1.5 litre mHawk diesel engine will be the biggest change in the baby Bolero; mhawk100 3-cylinder engine develops 100bhp power and 240Nm of torque but in order to enhance fuel efficiency it is likely to develop 68bhp power. The current Gen model draws power from a 2.5l diesel engine that belts out mere 63bhp of max output.
Mahindra is also developing four new petrol engines and we might see one of them (1.6l petrol most likely) to make debut in the compact version of popular rugged SUV.
