After adding dual airbags on Elite i20, i20 active and Verna sedan in January this year, Hyundai motors has now advanced towards making its small range of cars safer. The entry level hatchback Eon, Grand i10 and Xcent compact sedan will get driver side airbag as standard across the range. Almost all carmakers are making basic safety features as standard across the range due to Mandatory crash test norms for new cars from October 2017.
The entry level hatch Hyundai Eon now sports driver side airbag with all variants except for the base D-lite variant. Affordably priced between Rs. 3.24-4.42 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), the hatchback is available with three engine options- Petrol, diesel and LPG.
Hyundai has made driver side airbag and ABS as standard on all the variants of the compact sedan Xcent. The top spec Sx (O) variant comes with dual front airbags as standard. The sedan is priced at Rs. 5.37-7.88 lakh for the petrol and 6.26 lakh to Rs. 8.07 lakh for the diesel powertrain.
The Asta variant of Grand i10 has been discontinued, so as a result of revision, the car will be available in four variants- Era, Magna, Sportz and Asta (O) with driver side airbag as standard while passenger side airbag is available on Sportz and Asta (O) variants while ABS comes with Asta (O) trim only.
According to dealer sources, the addition will cost Rs. 11,000 more on each trim of grand i10 while new prices of Xcent and Eon are yet to be revealed. Hyundai motors will also launch the special edition of Xcent and grand i10 soon to commemorate 20 years of Operations in India. The special limited editions will feature with cosmetic changes outside such as body decals, chrome treatments, new alloy along with features additions inside.
