Mahindra has launched NuvoSport in India and it will be replacing the slow seller Quanto in the lineup. The compact is based on the similar platform that also underpins Mahindra Scorpio and it’s a very important product as it marks the beginning of 2016 for the carmaker. The NuvoSport is available in six variants– N4, N4+, N6, N6 AMT, N8 and N8 AMT. It is designed and developed in-house while R&D has been carried out the Mahindra research valley in Chennai. Mahindra NuvoSport base N4 version is available for Rs. 7.42 lakh while the N8 MT variant comes at Rs. 9.22 lakh. The N6 AMT and N8 AMT are available for Rs. 9.10 lakh and Rs. 9.87 lakh respectively. All the prices are ex-showroom Delhi. We took a presumption at the price prior to launch and we are almost right.
Engine Details:
The NuvoSport retains the 1.5l 4-cylinder mhawk diesel engine which continues to deliver 101PS of power@3750rpm and 240Nm of high torque between 1600-2800rpm. The engine is linked to a 5-speed manual as standard while 5-speed AMT gearbox is also available on N6 and N8 variants. The torque figures are class leading and better than its rivals Ford EcoSport and Maruti Vitara Brezza. It is also available with two drive modes- Power and Eco while fuel efficiency of the SUV stands at 17.45 KMPL.
Space and Dimensions:
Dimensionally, it is similar to Quanto with 3985mm of length, 1850mm of width, and 1870mm of height. Despite sub 4m profile it offers decent cabin space thanks to 2760mm of wheelbase and comes with multiple seat adjustability features such as 60:40 2nd row spilt, flexi 3rd row, double jump 2nd row and first in segment reclining function for the 2nd row seats. It retains the seven seat layout (5+2) and while boot space stands at 410 liters which can be further expanded up to 850 liters by folding down the rear seats.
.Exterior and Interior:
Mahindra has tried to differentiate NuvoSport from Quanto with changes such as new front fascia including aggressive grille, contoured hood with air intake, headlamps with separate LED DRL strips, revised front bumper with circular fog lamps giving it the butch and muscular stance. The side flaunts character lines, new 16 inch alloy wheels, body cladding making it sporty and way better than blunt profile of Quanto. Rear remains almost identical to the Quanto but now it gets clear lens headlights, new badging and other minor changes.
The interior is tweaked version of Quanto with few changes such as revised dashboard, 6.2 inch AVN touchscreen infotainment system with USB, bluetooth, Aux-in, power windows, electrically adjustable driver’s seat, steering mounted buttons, remote keyless entry etc. The SUV also includes Micro hybrid technology, front seat lumbar support, cruise control, driver information system, faux leather upholstery, mobile charging points for 1st and 2nd row, chrome surround AC vents and knobs and aluminium scuff plates and pedals.
Colors:
The NuvoSport graces in six color shades which are Rust orange, Molten Red, Fiery black, Mist Silver, Regal Blue and Diamond white.
Safety:
Mahindra has not only worked upon the design and interior changes but also on the safety segment as the variants except base sports dual front airbags, ABS (Ant-lock braking system) with EBD (electronic brake force distribution) as standard. Besides these, it also bears Intellipark reverse assist, speed sensing auto door lock, digital engine immobilizer, anti- theft warning, collapsible steering column etc.
