Auto Expo 2016: Maruti Suzuki Ignis

A slew of new launches are lined up for the number one car maker Maruti Suzuki in 2016 such Baleno RS, Vitara Brezza and off course iM-4 concept aka Ignis. The new vehicle will be positioned in the Micro SUV category and will be pitched against Hyundai i20 Active, Fiat Avventura and Mahindra KUV100. It has already launched in Japan and slated to make its official debut in India this year in the expected price bracket of Rs. 6-9 lakh (ex-showroom) and will be sold via NEXA dealership range.

Engine Details:

In the home turf Japan, Ignis draws the power from 1.25l K12C Dual jet petrol mill good for 91PS of max output@6000rpm and 118Nm of peak torque@4400rpm with support to SHVS hybrid system. An electric motor is also on board with 3bhp and 50Nm of max torque. While for India, it is expected to get 1.2l VVT petrol and tried tested 1.3l Multijet DDis motor that develops 74bhp power and 190Nm of high torque. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual and a CVT automatic gearbox. For ‘Kitna Deti hai’ contingent it offers around 25.4KMPL of fuel efficiency.

Space and Dimensions:

Ignis offers comfort seating capacity for 5 adults thanks to 3700mm of length, 1660mm of width and 1595mm of height. The wheelbase stands at 2438mm and has a ground of clearance of 180mm which is sufficient enough to tackle all kinds of bad roads. To keep your baggage, it provides 258 liters of boot space which is further expandable up to 485 liters by folding down the rear seats.

Exterior and Interior:

The Micro SUV carries some distinct styling cues like round roof and tall boy stance. The SUV comes with Honeycomb mesh grille; roundish headlamps with U shaped LED DRLs and stylish alloy wheels. The sides of the SUV clearly flaunt the tall boy stance which is enhanced by flared wheel arches. Rear profile sports square shaped tail lights and rear glass, blackened bumper which further adds sporty feel to the car.

Interior of the car looks refreshed and different from any other Maruti till now as it bears unique patterned dual tone dashboard flanked by Stand up Smartplay touchscreen infotainment system surrounded by AC vents and supports voice recognition, navigation, USB and Aux-In support. It also sports a multi function steering wheel, host of control buttons underneath the large display screen, buckets seats with spilt function for the rear ones etc makes the interiors decent.

Safety:

Safety elements would remain at par Swift hatchback and it is expected to get two front airbags, anti-lock braking system (ABS) with electronic brake force distribution (EBD) as standard across all the variants along with other basic safety features.
