Hyundai is working on the facelift version of its premium hatchback Elite i20 in India. A heavily camouflaged test mule of the 2018 version has been spotted doing test runs, hinting that its launch is around the corner. Hyundai motor is well on track for a 2018 Auto Expo debut which will be followed by imminent launch. In April 2017, Hyundai launched a slightly updated Elite i20 with dual tone color option and feature upgrades.
Though the mule was fully camouflaged but it is likely to get revised signature hexagonal grille, new front bumper similar to new Gen Verna, new projector headlamps with LED daytime running lights and revamped bonnet. Coming to the sides, the biggest change will be the new multi spoke alloy wheels, and ORVMs with integrated turn blinkers. Rear is likely to get repositioning of the number plate which now will be placed on the boot lid and slightly revised tail lights.
The overall proportion of the car is likely to remain same. The interiors were fully covered but we expect 2018 version to get new seat upholstery, updated infotainment system and some new features. For safety, dual front airbags, ABS with EBD might be offered as standard across the range.
Coming to the powertrains, the facelift version will be offered with the same set of engines of the current model. So, the petrol segment will be taken care by a 1.2l that makes 82bhp along with 114Nm torque and a 1.4 litre motor which is good for 99bhp power and 132Nm of torque. The engines are linked to a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed automatic respectively.
The diesel is taken care by a 1.4 litre CRDi engine that belts out 89bhp power and 220Nm of peak torque. The engine is paired to a 6-speed manual gearbox. Hyundai could equip Elite i20 with its new 1.0 litre turbocharged direct injection petrol unit and a mild hybrid system which will help it to deliver better fuel efficiency.
