2017 Hyundai Xcent

Hyundai has launched the fresh version of its compact sedan, Xcent in India at an introductory price of Rs. 5.38 lakh which goes up to Rs. 8.41 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) for the top spec variant. The sedan is available in five variants- E, E+, S, SX and SX (O), with two engine options – petrol and diesel. The 2017 iteration of Xcent comes with range of cosmetic updates with additional features inside the cabin. Under the hood, petrol remains same while diesel gets a new engine.

Engine Details

The petrol variants continue to be powered by the same 1.2l Kappa dual VTVT engine which delivers max output of 82bhp@6000rpm and 114Nm of torque@4000rpm. This engine comes with an option of a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic gearbox with a claimed mileage of 20.14 Kmpl and 17.36 Kmpl. The diesel variants get new life in the form of a more powerful 1.2l U2 CRDi motor belt out 74bhp power@4000rpm and 190Nm of torque between 1750-2250rpm, linked to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The engine delivers an ARAI specified mileage of 25.04 Kmpl.

Space and Dimensions

In dimensions, there is no change the compact sedan continues to measure 3995mm in length, 1660mm in width, 1520mm in height and ride on the wheelbase of 2425mm. The ground clearance stands at 165mm and offers a boot space of 407 liters.

Colors

The Hyundai Xcent facelift comes in 5 color options– Wine red, Star dust, Polar white, Sleek Silver and Marina blue.

Exterior and Interior

The compact sedan comes with Hyundai 2.0 Fluidic Sculpture design philosophy and wears new cascade front grille with horizontal chrome slats flanked by sweptback headlamps with LED daytime running lights. The front bumper is restyled along with slim black area and larger fog lamps. Side profile remains identical with ORVMs with turn indicators and the pull type chrome plated door handles. However, it now rides on the new 15 inch dual tone diamond cut alloy wheels with wheel air curtains.

Rear end sports a new two piece large tail lights, tweaked boot with thick chrome bar over the number plate, dual tone bumper and shark fin antenna.

Interior

Hyundai has wrapped new Xcent with some premium features such as 7 inch touchscreen AVN system with Apple car play, Android auto, mirror link, voice recognition and Smartphone navigation. It also includes fully automatic temperature control (FATC) with rear Ac vent, driver seat height adjustment, steering mounted audio controls, Hyundai alternator management system (HAMS), leather wrapped steering wheel, smart key with push start button, cooled glove box, rear power socket, rear armrest with cup holder etc.

Safety

As for the safety, dual front airbags are now standard while ABS is only offered with the top variants. The earlier version had driver airbags along with ABS as standard across the range. Other safety tech includes park assist featuring rear parking sensor with rear parking camera with display and audio, keyless entry, impact sensing auto door lock, central locking, immobilizer and rear defogger.
