Hyundai has taken off the cover from its new Sonata Hybrid on Seoul, South Korea i.e. on company’s home turf before its official debut at the Detroit motor show in January 2015. According to Korean car manufacturer new Sonata Hybrid has improved in almost every department from performance to efficiency. New Sonata Hybrid looks completely refreshed with new look, more cabin space and improved power train.
New Hyundai Sonata is to get power from 2.0L GDI petrol trim emitting 154bhp power and 189Nm peak torque while the Hybrid electric motor musters 51bhp of max power and 205Nm torque which takes power from lithium polymer battery with the ability of 1.62 KW/hour delivering 18.2 km/l on 16 inch radial tyres while it drop to 17.7 km/l when fitted with 17 inch tyres. Both the engines are mated to six speed automatic transmission.
According to the images, most prominent thing about Sonata’s design is its hexagonal grille with 3D inserts, lip spoiler, rear diffuser and tail lamps which makes it more aerodynamic than its predecessor model. Apart from exterior upgrades new Sonata gets many updates in interior as well which includes redesigned central console, dashboard and A/C vents. Steering wheel and infotainment system is also a new one.
2015 Sonata Hybrid is 35mm longer at 4855mm, 30mm wider at 1865mm and 5 mm taller at 1475mm than the current model with 10mm of extended wheelbase at 2805mm which also ensures larger and spacious cabin.
Hyundai’s executive vice president Mr. Jin Kwak has said, “The launch of our all-new Sonata Hybrid, with its class-leading fuel economy and powerful driving performance, comes at a time when eco-friendly vehicles are becoming established as a mainstream car,”.
“Our latest offering, based on one of our best-selling models, underscores our efforts to meet the growing popularity of eco-friendly vehicles around the world.” He added.
Hyundai will showcase Sonata Hybrid at the Detroit Motor show and after that it will go on sale in Korea soon after that but India launch is at the end of the year.
