Tata motors has silently launch new Nano XE base variant on 9th January 2015 at Rs. 2.06 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) XE is base variant and will sit below the XT top variant. This new Variant gets power steering as standard and it is around 36,000 cheaper than the top variant. With this launch company might discontinue the older variants CX and LX or might offer them in cheaper price in rural areas to boost sales for this new XE variant.

As it is a base variant of Nano so many of the features are deleted off from it like XE gets black color bumpers, door handles and ORVMs instead of body painted equipments of XT variant, front fascia of XE is deprived of chrome elements of XT. There are no front fog lamps in XE variant plus roof antenna and spoiler is also not a part of XE.

Apart from exterior Cabin of XE also gets some feature cutting like its gets trendy seat upholstery but there is no option of premium beige fabric option as it is available on XT variant. Dashboard gets only Ebony black shade and there is no music system available on XE variant as standard.

Some comfort and safety features also misses out on Nano XE like no remote less go entry for this variant, no front power windows, no central locking. Other features like 12V power socket, map pockets, premium seats, magazine holder, A/C with heater are some other features which are absent from Nano XE.

Apart from above mentioned features Nano is equipped with all the features which are available on top variant of Nano. Tata Nano is available in three colors only- Meteor Silver, Royal Gold and Serene White.

Dimension remains same with 3099mm length, 1495mm wide, and 1652 height. Ground clearance of 180mm is more than enough to tackle the potholes and bumps of Indian roads.

Nano XE is powered to a same 624cc 2 cylinder petrol engine developing a mild 37.5bhp power@5500+/-250rpm and 51Nm of peak torque@4000+/-500rpm paired to a 4 speed manual transmission with the fuel efficiency of 25.35 km/l.

After this XE model launch it is quite clear that Tata will discontinue CX and LX trim and hence it makes the customer’s task easier as they now have to choose from two options now- XE and XT.

Tata will soon launch Nano twist active which might get more powerful 1.0L three cylinder petrol motor with five speed manual transmission and an AMT transmission with open able fifth door option (boot). If Tata offers an AMT in upcoming Nano then it might become the least price AMT car in the world if priced rightly.
