New Hyundai Elantra spied in India; launch in first week of September

The South Korean giant, Hyundai has been teasing new Gen Elantra executive sedan for a while now and it has been spotted doing extensive test runs on the Indian roads. Now reports have emerged that the premium sedan will be launched in the first week of September 2016 and it will produced at HMIL’s Chennai plant. The test mule was under heavy camouflage and it showcases the silhouette and body panels similar to South Korean model.

The 2016 Elantra is based on the second iteration of Hyundai’s Fluidic 2.0 Sculpture which has given sky rocketed success to models like Elite i20, latest sensation Creta SUV and Santa Fe premium SUV. With the use of new design philosophy, new Elantra looks sportier, sharper and aggressive than ever.

The new Hyundai Elantra measures 4610mm in length, 1800mm in width, 1450mm in height and has a long wheelbase of 2700mm. Overall, new model is 25mm wider and 20mm longer than the car it is replacing.

In terms design transformation, the new model has received renovation as compared to the current model. The front is now more aggressive with huge five slated hexagonal front grille, sweptback projector headlamps, brawny front bumper accolades by boomerang shaped LED DRLs. The new model is less curvy and comes with bolder character lines while rear gets new inimitable LED tail lamps and muscular rear bumper.

While cabin is not visible but we expect Interiors to not as flamboyant as design.  New Elantra is expected to get a new 7 inch touchscreen infotainment system christened with navigation, voice recognition, Android Auto and Apple car play. In fact it will get some premium end features such as leather upholstery, reverse parking camera with display, new multi function steering wheel, automatic climate control, multiple airbags and top notch safety features.

For the Indian market Elantra might draw power from new range of engines which include 1.6l CRDi diesel engine capable of 134bhp power and 306Nm of torque while the petrol will be new 2.0l MPI petrol 146bhp power and 183Nm of torque. Transmission options include 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmission.

Expected to come in the price range between Rs. 14-18 lakh (ex-showroom), it take on the likes of Volkswagen Jetta, Toyota Corolla Altis, Chevrolet Cruze and Honda Civic.
