India bound Maruti Suzuki YRA/ik-2 unveiled at Geneva Motor Show

The Japanese auto maker, Suzuki has finally unveiled the ik-2 hatchback concept at the 85th Geneva motor show and the upcoming Maruti Suzuki YRA hatchback is also based on same concept. Suzuki has been the dominator in the hatchback segment in India since its beginning and has so many hatchbacks in its lineup.

In the premium hatchback segment Hyundai i20 has been delivering good sales numbers for Hyundai so Maruti also wants to be the part of this segment and will soon launch YRA hatchback in India based on ik-2 concept. Suzuki confirms that they will launch ik-2 in Europe next year so expect India launch soon after but we expect an Indian launch in the second half of this year.

The ik-2 is a new concept based on ‘Liquid flow’ technology and harmonized force which suggests wide and low silhouette inspired by ‘Harmony, elegance and energy wave. This concept consists of character lines on the bonnet, Swept back unique LED headlamps, wide bumper grille, muscular fenders, distinctive LED tail lights, blackened A-B pillars and a sloping C pillar compliments the muscular side profile.

The concept got 18 inch alloy wheels but production car will carry 15 and 16 inch wheels on top variants similar to its arch rival Elite i20.

The Suzuki ik-2 is 4023mm long, 1709mm wide and 1450mm high with the wheelbase of 2520mm but the production spec model In India will surely measure less than 4 metres.

The Suzuki ik-2 will be powered by a new 1.0L direct injected turbocharged petrol engine named as Booster Jet, no specific details are out yet. According to Suzuki its reduced weight, new platform and downsized engine it will improve Safety, NVH levels, handling, fuel efficiency and Performance.

The ik-2/YRA hatchback is a premium hatchback that will be positioned above Swift and will lock its horns with Hyundai Elite i20, Honda Jazz and Volkswagen Polo.
